Job Summary
The Sr Property Accountant's primary area of responsibility is to support the property accounting team within the Controller's group. The successful candidate will have demonstrated drive and career progression as well as have the ability to learn quickly, improve processes, maintain best control environment, and deliver without compromising on teamwork or quality.
The Sr Property Accountant will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
Preparing monthly capital spending accruals for all business units
Partnering with business teams to understand the operations and ensure actuals and accruals properly reflect operating activities
Preparing dashboards and summary review documents to facilitate month-end review of property related general ledger balances
Assisting management in Income Statement and Balance Sheet analytics of property related balances, providing variance explanations as necessary to support monthly financial close and reporting
Ensuring variances to planned performance and impacts are appropriately analyzed, understood and communicated to relevant stakeholders
Performing day to day activities to ensure monthly financial close activities are accurate and timely, including reviewing Authorizations for Expenditures (AFEs) to ensure proper classification
Maintaining a robust control environment while performing daily duties
Ensuring compliance of all tasks with relevant accounting standards and SOX controls
Assisting with internal and external audits
Building SAP super user knowledge and system support
Liaising with Accenture to lead SAP enhancements projects as needed
Helping improve and document processes related to property accounting
Handling ad-hoc projects as assigned
Licenses/ Certifications
CPA Preferred or equivalent certification
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting
Minimum 5 years' experience with an upstream oil and gas company or public accounting experience from a Big 4 or National firm with experience in Oil and Gas Accounting
