City Experiences is seeking an Event Intern for its Sales department in Chicago, IL

Event Interns will serve as an essential part of the operations team by being an important point of contact with guests after the event sales have been made and will provide exceptional service to the guests throughout the execution of the event. Interns are expected to work safely and to be dynamic in a fast-paced environment. In addition to operational responsibilities, all Interns in the company are expected to participate in learning opportunities, including company-led webinars and completing e-learning leadership development courses. Interns will support the company’s mission of creating amazing experiences for our guests.

The right person will be adaptable and embody the RESPECT Service System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Work with the events team to ensure that all details of assigned cruises are complete.

  • Communicate effectively with clients to ensure their vision becomes a reality.

  • Identify and follow through with any details pertaining to the cruise. This includes, but is not limited to, floor plans, timing, order of events, cruise tickets, drink tickets, bar packages, vendor management, final headcounts, and client setup.

  • Place orders, coordinate with outside vendors, and track invoices.

  • Be available (within reason) by phone and email to answer any planning questions-both internally and externally.

  • Work closely with sales team members to understand all expectations of clients.

  • Complete and convey accurate cruise details, in a timely fashion, to F&B and Operations teams to ensure the proper execution of events.

  • Will be expected to work onboard vessels to help orchestrate events multiple days a week. The remaining days will be in-office time.

  • Boarding of some events is expected as well as meeting face-to-face with clients when requested.

  • Participate in additional learning opportunities and intern meetings as required

  • Successful completion of required Hornblower University courses

  • Additional job duties assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:


  •  High school diploma or equivalent required.

  •  Must be pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

  •  Available to work the assigned season

  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality is essential

  • Must be able to convey written and verbal information effectively to guests and coworkers.

  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.

  • Basic computer skills required.

  • Ability to work for extended periods without sitting.

  • Availability to work weekends and some holidays.

  • Per maritime law, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident*.

  • Self-starter, capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Highly efficient team player, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, fluid environment.

  • Be process and quality-oriented, with sharp attention to detail.

  • Have excellent presentation skills.

  • Dependent on additional duties assigned, be able to lift furniture or other heavy items up and downstairs
