Job Description:

The IT System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure for the Port Isabel Detention Center contract.  The SA participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. The SA ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational requirements, enabling staff, and partners. This individual assists the project team with technical issues in the ongoing support of the systems in use and/or being installed for the Project Management Office (PMO).

The SA is a member of the project management team and provides consulting to the project to determine hardware, software, and/or system functional specifications.

These activities include working within the project life-cycle; technical assistance; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. The SA is accountable for the following systems: Data Capture Solutions/Endure ID, Keefe Kiosks, desktops and laptops, printers, tablets, handhelds, device monitoring, internet connectivity and monitoring, local area network – including Wi-Fi, coordinating with Shared Services IT staff for problems with network access, hardware repair/replacement, access to Shared Services systems, e.g. Costpoint, Sharepoint, Deltek T&E.  

Responsibilities and Duties: 


  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems and triage issues accordingly.

  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cable, operating systems, and appropriate software.

  • Maintain record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities.

  • Develop, maintain, and manage Inspection, Testing, and Preventive Maintenance (ITPM) programs for all designated equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, vendor technical direction and industry best practices.

  • Run and provide all necessary reports as specified by management.

  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support.

  • Collaborate with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.

  • Provide project management oversight for any new systems implementation projects.

  • Primary interface to software and hardware vendors for locally installed systems to directly coordinate maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, replacement.

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in the detention/corrections industry and make recommendations to project management for computing hardware or software that will improve overall operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

You must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements for infectious diseases such as COVID-19.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, or other related field (Master’s is preferred).

  • Minimum 8 years in an IT related field

  • Knowledge & Experience with LAN and WiFi management, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance

  • Knowledge of desktop/laptop and server computer hardware.

  • Experience with desktop Windows operating systems

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server

  • Experience with application system administration and support

  • Very good written and oral English communication skills.
