A DAY IN THE LIFE



  • Participates in and performs scientific analysis, feasibility studies, investigation/assessment reports, risk-based studies, report writing


  • Plans multiple projects simultaneously which may include being the technical lead on a project, supervising technicians and staff-level professionals, and relaying proper procedures to other team members


  • Develops project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations logically and professionally including the development of assessments, plans, tables, and figures or drawings, which support and relay project information.


  • Uses knowledge of regulatory standards in the area of technical background or technical responsibility


  • Tracks project budget and project hours and utilize time effectively to complete tasks within the assigned timeframe(s)


  • Communicates with the Project Manager when potential issues are foreseen or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget


  • The position involves some regional and potential national travel as needed.


  • Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.


  • Proficient in the project setup and authorization paperwork including project authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase order requests, and project schedules


  • Proficient in project financial management duties including project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project/subcontractor contract compliance.


  • Maintains confidentiality at all times


  • Exercises safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs


  • Participates in the company's continuous improvement programs and provides support to team efforts


  • Keeps up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops


  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Geology or Engineering or a related field, from an accredited four-year college or university


  • 3+ years of related experience


  • Professional scientific license or certification(s) as it relates to the area of expertise (stormwater inspection, wetland delineation, RCRA certification, etc)


  • Knowledge of computer-aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.)


  • Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40-hour HAZWOPER environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher class


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


  • Be an outgoing team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities


  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are a must


  • The ability to actively delegate and communicate in a group-oriented setting


  • Works independently to quickly and accurately solve assigned tasks with minimal oversight


  • Ability and willingness to balance the needs and desires of a group and take ownership of higher-level institutional goals


  • The ability to multi-task and think quickly is highly desirable



Working Conditions



While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers and is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. Frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel. There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from the floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 30 pounds. The work may involve some bending, standing, or walking. Out-of-office site visits could potentially have more strenuous physical demands.


Potential on-site visits can be expected with a majority of work done in an office setting. Primarily normal office working conditions in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. The noise level is usually quiet; however, the individual can be exposed to loud noise situations occasionally. The environment will vary with out-of-office site visits.
