HR Generalist - NYC Ferry at HNY Ferry, LLC

Salary Range $65,000 - $70,000

City Experiences is seeking a Human Resources Generalist for our NYC Ferry operation in Brooklyn.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

Support day to day activities of the Human Resource Office for 400 employees, with a hands-on approach, assist in delivering HR services that meet or exceed the needs of employees and enable business success; as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and operating procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Stays abreast of legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends.

  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance

  • Utilizes an “open door” policy to acknowledge employee problems or concerns in a timely manner

  • Writes and delivers presentations to department managers, staff or government officials regarding Human Resources policies and practices as necessary.

  • Determines and advises on appropriate resolution of employee related issues.

  • Partners with HSSQE to conduct employee accident investigations, as necessary.

  • Ensures compliance with procedure for accessing, reviewing, and auditing employee files and ensuring compliance

  • Partners with Director of ISO/Respect & Training when appropriate to deliver required management training classes as per the Training Requirements Matrix to develop supervisors and managers.

  • Facilitates random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug testing process (in properties where applicable).

  • Respond to human resources-related inquiries.

  • Create and distribute internal communications regarding status changes, benefits, or company policies.

  • Administer new employee on-boarding and orientation.

  • Process complaints regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, or other instances of workplace harassment and assist in any necessary investigations and disciplinary actions.

  • Manage FMLA/LOA/PFL/STD/WC and other leaves

  • Manage employee coaching and counseling action

  • Visit other Ports as required

  • Assist with job fairs, with recruiting

  • Manage terminations packages, including writing termination letters

  • Work with Regional HR Manager to complete open enrollment

  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Must be able to work in startup mode, and a fast- paced work environment

  • Must be able to multi-task

  • Must have great writing skills and be able to write communication to employees explaining regulations

  • Must have Excel skills

  • Must have great organizational skills

  • Must be able to travel to different locations in NYC on short notice as needed

  • Must be able to communicate both written and verbal, existing, as well as, new policies and procedures

  • Must have employee investigation knowledge

  • Must have experience assisting 500 or more employees.
