Summary:

The IT Security Director is responsible for the integrity of Akima’s corporate network systems and will lead in the creation and maintenance of the systems, along with coordinating complex security projects.​ Hands-on Security/Network Engineer experience with a broad scope of skills in implementing network and security best practices. This position is extremely dynamic in the skills required but will require a network and security professional to grasp the complexities and challenges for the environment.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Manage the implementation and development of Akima’s IT security program.

  • Make sure security policies, standards and procedures are established and enforced.

  • Continuously validate the organization against policies/guidelines/procedures/regulations/laws to ensure compliance.

  • Build and manage in-house security team and 3rd party security providers.

  • Track audit findings and recommendations to ensure that appropriate mitigation actions are taken.

  • Manage the monitoring of information security data sources to maintain organizational situational awareness.

  • Communicate the value of information technology (IT) security throughout all levels of the organization stakeholders.

  • Work with Akima Training Department to ensure appropriate information security training and awareness.

  • Provide research development, implementation, and review of Akima’s information security to prevent unauthorized access.

  • Provide technical support, advice, and analysis in cyber security policy formulation.

  • Provide malicious attack and risk mitigation analysis as well as program protection engineering.

  • Lead requirements and concepts of operation for cyber security.

  • Lead in program protection and information assurance aspects of developmental planning, systems acquisition, and operational employment of systems.

  • Work with companies, departments, and corporate teams as required.

  • Document security on both new and fielded information systems and/or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

  • Lead in the engineering and configuration of network firewalls, proxies, endpoint protection suites, and content filters.

  • Audit and provide technical knowledge regarding network firewalls, content filters, routers, and other network equipment.

Minimum Qualifications: 


  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Clearance. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with at least seven (7) years of experience in network security (additional experience accepted in lieu of degree). 

  • Five (5) or more years of experience with Palo Alto firewalls.

  • The ideal candidate must be well0versed in cyber security tools, network topologies, intrusion detection, PKI, network security monitoring, and secured networks as well as have familiarity and experience in the implementation of cyber security regulations and vulnerability assessments.

  • Must have experience building and maintaining Next Generation Firewalls, IPS systems, and content filtering solutions.

  • Must have experience in the design and implementation of network and/or server systems that meet agency cyber security policy and regulations.

  • Experience with regular vulnerability and web application scanning, through remediation of vulnerable software.

  • Experience with Log Management and Security Monitoring using SIEM solutions.

  • May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

Desired Qualifications:  


  • Security certifications: CISSP, CISM, or CCNP Security.

  • Experience with NIST SP 800-171/800-53 Assessments.

  • Experience with Palo Alto Prisma Access.

  • Experience with Palo Alto Cortex XDR.

  • Experience with Securonix SIEM.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Services, Sentinel and Purview management.

  • Experience with RSA SecurID, Azure MFA, and/or other Two-Factor Authentication systems.

  • Experience with Citrix Netscaler, Cisco ASA-X.

  • Experience with Cisco IOS Zone Based Firewalls.

  • Experience with Network Security Monitoring tools such as Corelight, Snort, Suricata, Bro (Zeek).

  • Experience with Network Vulnerability Scanners such as Nessus and Netsparker.

  • Experience with securing IPv6 and Zero Trust architectures.
