This position is accountable for managing the development and execution of multiple capital projects through all assigned phases. The project engineer assembles and leads the required cross-functional team to achieve agreed cost, schedule, quality, operability and safety objectives established for all assigned projects.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Employ LyondellBasell's phase gate Project Management Process (PMP) in execution of capital projects up to $5MM total installed costs (TIC) • Oversee long-range capital expenditure planning for assigned sites • Support definition of project objectives, scope development, and front end engineering in support of the project objectives • Develop documents necessary for project funding gate reviews and complete project reporting • Prepare and implement project execution plans and PMP checklist activities • Execute projects consistent with approved project objectives and assume accountability for overall HSE, cost, and schedule performance during development, execution, commissioning and startup of projects • Identify, analyze, and manage risk on projects • Lead multi-discipline project teams, including company and contract personnel, in resolution of technical and commercial issues • Prepare and present project updates to management • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills • Gather information and develop a thorough understanding of the project • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients • Demonstrate strong personal initiative and effective interpersonal skills • Provide inputs to continuous improvement of capital project development and management • Ensure Code of Conduct and all other LyondellBasell policies are consistently followed and administered • Interface effectively with all organization levels within the company
Eight (8) years of prior experience working in compounding, extrusion, chemical, petrochemical, refining and/or similar industry
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical degree
Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
Able to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and projects effectively
Able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients
Strong teamwork, results orientation and organizational skills
Familiarity with applicable engineering codes/standards and their application.
Working knowledge of equipment procurement and construction through prior experience working with contractors, vendors and purchasing to accomplish the work scope
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
General experience using ERP systems such as SAP
Understanding of Management of Change processes
Advanced knowledge of and experience in project management processes, engineering, procurement and construction is preferred.
Five (5) or more years direct experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager
Professional Engineer (PE) and/or PMP Certification
Advanced working knowledge of SAP functionality
