Sponsored Research Business Analyst - Illinois Global Institute

The Illinois Global Institute is searching for a Sponsored Research Business Analyst that is dedicated to managing the financial, regulatory, data management, and reporting aspects of sponsored research grants, contracts, and subcontracts for the Illinois Global Institute. The position will working closely with Illinois Sponsored Project Administration post award, but may also assist with pre-award and negotiations as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research administration

• Build and maintain current and detailed knowledge of federal agencies and private sponsors.
• Build and maintain a detailed knowledge of research compliance regulations including those contained within Uniform Guidance (UG).
• Develop and monitor project/grant expense plans, including staff planning, with regular reviews/updates provided to the principal investigators.
• Monitor and evaluate project and grant expenses for appropriateness. Prepare various transfers as needed.
• Monitor the financial activity on all grant accounts and process all internal reporting requirements.
• Examine financial statements of grants and contract accounts for accuracy and conformance to agency guidelines.
• Keep current with monthly reconciliation to Banner.
• Work with the principal investigator to prepare budget revisions, subcontracts, and any other required supporting documents.
• Assist principal investigators in preparing necessary progress reports, financial status reports and close out reports. Close grant accounts promptly upon expiration.
• Monitor the status of submitted proposals.
• Analyze funding proposals to determine if cost sharing should be established and monitor cost share commitments.
• Coordinating with human resources when needed, review principal investigator effort commitment and ensure that effort has been recorded accurately and on correct CFOPs.
• Assist principal investigators with semi-annual expenditure confirmations.

Grant reports and data management

• Coordinate and manage data requests across 10 different centers and programs.
• Acquire and maintain data needed for successful proposals and required reporting and present complex data sets in a well-organized and easy to digest way.
• Develop timelines for tasks and deadlines.
• Build and manage relationships across different campus units that manage different kinds of data (ATLAS, DMI, Illini Success Survey, IAGE, Grad College Fellowship office, etc.).
• Assist with data set cleaning.
• Help centers and programs track impact across campus.
• Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested.
• Serve as a resource for information for IGI grant portfolio.

Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

UIUC Certified Research Administrator (Illinois CRA); One year or more of post-award grant experience as administrator or grant recipient.

  • Appointment Information

    This is a full-time Civil Service 5040 - Grants and Contracts Associate position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
