AstraZeneca has an opening for a Senior Scientist within the Biologics Engineering Department to support pre-Clinical research of innovative therapeutic products. Expertise in innovative protein purification techniques and protein analysis is critical.

Business Area

The Protein Science group is at the heart of the Biologics Engineering department. We provide custom reagents in support of all therapeutic areas. We are a science-led authority function of people with curious minds that supports the discovery and engineering of novel biomolecules. We are passionate about collaboration and developing groundbreaking technologies to create the next generation of bio therapeutics to improve patients' lives.

What you'll do

We are seeking candidates with a Ph. D. with 5-10 years of experience performing multistep protein purification and analysis. Expertise in crafting and troubleshooting novel purification schemes is essential. Familiarity with multiple protein tags and their accurate application, including construct design and host selection, as well as downstream tag cleavage or modification is essential. Experience with handling proteins from multiple expression host systems and the relevant effects on the target protein is required. Experience with antibody structure and characterization is highly desirable Familiarity with protein and peptide MS/MS, label-free binding techniques such as Biacore, and sophisticated membrane protein handling is desirable. Good communication and documentation skills are essential. The candidate will be part of an interactive team with potential to supply to multiple pre-clinical programs in Cancer Biology, Autoimmunity and Inflammation and Infectious Diseases.

Essential for the Role

  • Experience with protein purification, including multistep FPLC purifications

  • Experienced with a variety of protein tags for purification and analytical uses.

  • Experienced with enzymatic processing of proteins (deglycosylation/protease cleavage/etc)

  • Experience with multiple protein analytical techniques and enzyme kinetics

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with protein and peptide MS and MS/MS

  • Experienced with Biacore/Octet or other label free binding techniques

  • Experience with membrane protein purification and analysis
