The main focus of this position is to aid the growth of service business by training how to inspect incoming paper/pulp equipment for repair and documenting findings including images and inspection reports. Identify the products from various different manufacturers and use the ANDRITZs system to place drawings and documentation into proper tracking files. In addition, documenting pictures on a network server before, during, and after rebuilding has been complete.

Training of Basic Duties

  • Inspect manufactured and incoming materials using various measuring devices (micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, tape measures, hardness testers, etc.).

  • Inspect welds for overall appearance, size, porosity, undercuts, cracks, inclusions, etc.

  • Move materials for inspection by operating various lifting devices (shop cranes, etc.) and mobile equipment such as fork trucks.

  • Read and interpret machining and fabrication drawings in English and Metric formats, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), machining surface finishes, and weld symbols.

  • Determine required specifications and compare to supplier provided documentation.

  • Properly document drawings and related information with associated tasks

  • Perform nondestructive inspections using liquid penetrant testing (LPT).

  • Reverse engineer components by determining the proper measurement tools required, and marking drawings or creating dimensioned sketches.

  • Aid with inventory management

Training of Complex Duties

  • Perform final inspection of completed equipment

  • Teardown, clean, inspect and assemble machines and/or components, using various hand tools, cutting/heating torches, etc. if necessary.

  • Provide flexibility to the company by potentially cross-training in other departments.

  • Ability to make drawings of parts that have been reverse engineered and be able to understand/ identify critical fits is a plus

  • Superbly qualified candidates may eventually take over supervisory responsibilities of a crew of technicians

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Inter-personal Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of the English language and grammar (required).

  • Previous machine shop or fabrication shop experience (preferred).

  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office products - Outlook, Excel, Word (required), Access (preferred).

  • Valid driver's license (required)

  • Knowledge and experience with SAP is a plus, training can be provided for those without experience

Physical Abilities and Environment

This position requires work in a production facility (plant/mill environment) which may be dusty, dirty, with varying temperature and noise levels, heavy duty magnets, welding machines, and manual & remote controlled devices using radio signals. Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs., sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, and have good mobility for inspecting larger components and traveling to supplier or customer locations. Must possess good visual acuity, hearing, touch, manual dexterity, coordination, and wear necessary PPE. Must be able to endure long working hours when required and perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
