Staff Environmental Planner (Melville, NY)

Job Summary:

H2M Architects + Engineers , a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, planning, and environmental consulting firm with offices in NY, NJ, and CT, seeks a Staff Environmental Planner to join our Melville, NY office. H2M's successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Planner to assist with environmental planning projects. The ideal candidate is expected to be a self-starter who can take initiative, complete assigned tasks efficiently under time constraints, and continuously develop planning knowledge and skillsets.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the development of project proposals and budgets.

  • Organize project files and compile reports containing multiples chapters and appendices.

  • Prepare, review, and interpret maps aerial photos, data, and field investigation reports.

  • Present project ideas to individuals and groups.

  • Develop and implement project plans at various levels, including those targeted to ensuring legal compliance.

  • Strategize, develop, and manage planning processes.

  • Research, write, and evaluate environmental impacts as part of technical analysis.

  • Manage technical impact analyses including review and assessment of information prepared by others for presentation in SEQRA documents.

  • Prepare SEQRA documents including Environmental Assessment Forms and Environmental Impact Statements.


Education and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Environmental Science/Studies, Geology, Urban Planning, Engineering, Political Science, or related discipline from an accredited program.

  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience, ideally in environmental planning or closely related field required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience in problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and willingness to convey ideas among team.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of local implementation of SEQRA, NEPA, and/or CEQR a plus.

  • Experience with ArcGIS a plus.

  • Ability to create budgets, develop project plans and schedules a plus.
