SUMMARY: Responsible for the handling and or administration of marine and or property / casualty claims in accordance with company standards, practices, and assigned authority.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Handle and adjust claims of low to moderate complexity. Responsible for reviewing and entering claims into the risk management information system. Interface with internal and external customers to obtain and provide claims information and documentation. Update and maintain claims information and statistics. Prepare billings to insurers. Provide accurate, courteous and timely information to all eligible and internal customers concerning claim status and other claim inquiries.

EDUCATION: Associate's degree and/or formal training after high school (vocational, business or technical school); or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE: 2 - 4 years experience in transportation and/or handling claims.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.

COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners. Ability to function effectively with, or as part of a team. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and engage in independent decision-making commensurate with experience. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences and other written materials. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to read and understand complex contracts, regulatory documents, and regulations regarding claim handling. Ability to utilize problem solving skills. Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures related to insurance administration. Knowledge of Federal and state statues and liability rules governing claims.

JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
