Overview:


The Tianjin Juilliard School seeks an experienced Senior Graphic Designer to bring Juilliard’s mission to a global audience through strengthening its brand presence in China and beyond. As a new educational institution, Tianjin Juilliard is the first performing arts institution in China to confer a U.S.-accredited Master of Music (MM) degree. This candidate should be a strong conceptual thinker, adept at creative brainstorming, and knowledgeable about design thinking and cultural nuances.

The Tianjin-based Senior Graphic Designer will execute ideas to help evolve and expand the School’s brand, designing and creating original graphics for use in digital and print media, new programs, brochures, and special events. This individual is directly responsible for developing and maintaining key visual aspects of Tianjin Juilliard’s brand including graphics, photography, and logos. Consistent communication and collaboration with colleagues from both New York and Tianjin campuses will be critical to the success of this position.


Responsibilities:



  • Works collaboratively with the Design Manager, drives design initiatives, and upholds the Juilliard and Tianjin Juilliard brand guidelines

  • Oversees projects and assignments at the direction of the direct supervisor and the Director of Public Affairs, Tianjin

  • Visually integrates typographic, photographic, and illustrative elements to create high-impact designs that engage target audiences

  • Ensures all final art meets project specifications for print and digital

  • Oversees the creation of an internal photo gallery and maintenance of archives for all design projects

  • Maintains photography best practices and ensure that stakeholders follow the established brand identity guidelines

  • Manages projects and assignments from conception through to execution, including, but not limited to institutional branding, new program marketing materials, posters, advertising campaigns, Admissions materials, invitations, school branded merchandise, and special events

  • Liaises with the Creative Services team at the Juilliard campus in New York to ensure brand consistency and quality across campuses

  • Special projects and other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferentially in Graphic Design, or other related field, or equivalent of education plus experience

  • Must have at least 4 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of pre-press and file preparation for print

  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop in particular) and Microsoft Office

  • Strong typographic skills with a sharp eye for photography

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and a track record of managing multiple schedules and tight deadlines efficiently and effectively

  • Must have a passion for and commitment to exceptional quality

  • The successful candidate must be able to collaborate across departments, be detail oriented, proactive, have a positive attitude, with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.

  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies from different backgrounds and cultures (staff, faculty, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact

  • Understanding of the School’s mission as well as its values

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bilingual (English and Mandarin) 

  • Experience designing for both local and global brands

  • Knowledge of Premier Pro and After Effects, strongly desirable

  • Knowledge of Adobe Animate
