POSITION PURPOSE:

Provide operations team leadership and management to a multi-functional diaper process team(s) to attain specific safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, logistics, asset management and human resource objectives.

CUSTOMERS AND CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS:

Customers:  Plant management, end users, other functional team members.

  • Production of a quality diaper at lowest possible cost.  

  • Effective utilization, maintenance and protection of plant assets materials, inventories, equipment and personnel).  

  • Positive work environment maintained to promote safety, housekeeping and human relations.

SCOPE:

Incumbent reports to operations manager.  Incumbent has operations responsibility for a technically complex diaper converting process. Responsible for achievement of plant objectives as applied to her area of responsibility.  Numerous raw materials are consumed in the process with each having several critical process variables to be monitored and controlled.  Rate of technological and business changes add significantly to the nature and variety of the challenges faced.  The incumbent may lead plant project teams or a task force for such things as process improvement, machine modifications or cost control.  The incumbent's depth of experience provides expertise to the team and other individual contributors.  The incumbent provides functional work direction for a multi-skilled team which typically includes members from maintenance, operations and engineering, including maintenance multi-skilled craftspeople and operation line personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


  • This position requires knowledge and skills typically associated with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent industrial experience.  Incumbent possesses extensive knowledge and experience in operations/maintenance at the functional level and demonstrates capability of facilitating projects/focus groups in a team environment while providing team leadership.

  • 5+ years’ experience in a high-speed industrial manufacturing environment preferred. Experience in a leadership/supervisory position preferred. 

  • 5+ years’ experience with high speed converting processes and equipment in a plant support role.

  • Experienced with LEAN Manufacturing and problem solving.

                        

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Safety

Implement loss control throughout the organization by visibly demonstrating that safety is embraced as a value.  Develop and maintain safety systems in accordance with K-C loss control management and lead their groups to complete safety objectives and ensure a safe and productive work environment.  Create and support the environment that removes barriers to success.  Follow the Safety Roles and Responsibilities Matrix by holding yourself and all team members accountable to its tenets.  Fully comply with corporate loss management policies as well as government safety and health regulations.  Support Corporate Drug and Alcohol efforts working with their management team to deal with issues as they arise.  

Product Quality

Lead the asset team in effectively utilizing and maintaining quality systems based on prevention and process control. Maintain systems in raw materials, work in progress, finished product and packaging to ensure achievement of quality objectives and fully comply with corporate and government regulations

Productivity and Cost

Lead the asset teams in implementing programs which will ensure optimum performance in achieving expected results in areas of waste, machine efficiency/delay and machine output.
Coordinate the efficient utilization of all asset team resources to ensure that business objectives are met. Manage COM (i.e. operating supplies, maintenance, labor, gap closure savings, etc.).  Provide day to day direction for the asset teams. Development of team objectives that support Plant and sector objectives. Support mill initiatives on S, Q, D, C, E.  

Raw Materials

Provide leadership to ensure raw material practices are established and maintained to meet good manufacturing practice requirements.  Ensure the implementation of objectives and plans to efficiently control “other” waste in support of plant objectives.   Ability to manage vendor/supplier relationships in a positive cost-effective manner.

Customer Service 

Lead the coordination of grade/count change activities to ensure the satisfaction of plant customer service objectives while simultaneously optimizing asset performance.  Provide direction and lead plans to improve asset change flexibility and performance.

Housekeeping

Maintain working conditions and high levels of housekeeping, appearance, and sanitation, with positive employee attitudes that will ensure full compliance with governmental regulations and corporate policies and achievement of safety and good manufacturing practices and conditions.  Develop and lead plans to improve asset housekeeping appearance in accordance with World Class Manufacturing Housekeeping standards.

Internal Controls

Ensure the effective application of internal control systems and procedures applicable to the functional areas of responsibility by providing management direction and support to the implementation, maintenance and audit of Corporate, Company and Plant internal control policies, instructions and procedures.

Human Resources

Promote a good employee relations climate through the effective and consistent implementation of plant guidelines and procedures that will result in employees considering their plant to be a fair and equitable place of employment.
Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.
