Job Summary

The IT Project Manager I plans, schedules, and ensures timely completion of assigned projects and/or IT-reliant complex operational processes for IEEE. The IT Project Manager manages IT projects and processes, coordinating the necessary steps to take a project from inception to completion. The IT Project Manager I follows established policies, procedures, methodologies. Given projects assigned may impact one or more business area or technology application, the project manager also assists in the identification of process improvements to foster agility and efficiency across IEEE.

The IT Project Manager I leads approved IT projects after assignment in IT Governance by the Director of IT Project Management. The IT Project Manager produces project plans, documentation, regular status reports, and works through and resolves conflicts and issues to keep projects on track. The IT PM I serves an advocate for the IT Department and the One IT model and enables a customer centric environment by providing guidance/support to other IT and business groups through project management excellence.

This position reports to the Director of IT Project Management and functions as an individual contributor.

Key Responsibilities


  • Manages the full life-cycle of the project and applies the appropriate project management methodologies/tools to define and execute: scope management, schedule management, cost tracking/management as appropriate, resource management, issue/risk management, communications management, change management, and quality management. Ensures on-time and on-budget delivery of projects through organizing, developing and forecasting project plans to ensure delivery meets the needs of the business; Works closely with IT Department Resource Managers with respect to project resource allocation, issue resolution, and risk management; Also interfaces with IT Business Partners and clients across multiple OUs.

  • Ensures adoption of change, builds strong partnerships, and communications plans with all project stakeholders and project team members; Adheres to IEEE IT Project Life Cycle, IT Governance, and other relevant processes as necessary. Actively prepares for/participates in project reviews and reporting.

  • Leads and engages cross-functional teams that are accountable for design, development and implementation of defined solutions and/or processes as appropriate; Ensures alignment of all project roles and responsibilities and that these are articulated to each team member, modified as required, and accomplished through-out the project; Provides clear feedback – both routine feedback (ad hoc discussions based on project activities) and formal feedback (including Lessons Learned). Provides project updates and conducts status meetings; Liaises between business, technology and support teams. Creates, maintains, and updates project plans as appropriate.

  • Working closely with the appropriate Resource Manager, monitors and measures resource assignments against project/task goals and accountabilities. The IT PM I also recommends and identifies opportunities for process improvements, collaborates with developers and subject matter experts to support technical vision

  • Develops and maintains effective rapport with vendors; Collaborates with vendors as appropriate to understand products/services; Gathers relevant metrics to determine and measure overall vendor quality. Provides feedback on vendor performance; Promotes and ensures knowledge transfer from vendors/contractors to IEEE staff

  • Stays current with emerging project management methods, industry norms, and applies project Lessons Learned; Contributes to the development of the most current, relevant, and innovative project management practices/standards for the IEEE IT Project Management Team; Shares knowledge of emerging industry methods, practices, and standards with the IT Project Management team and across the larger PM/BA community IT through informal communities of action; Commits to evolving management of projects to proactively address business and project needs, change management challenges, and communication requirements for a successful project; Contributes to building a community of growing

  • capabilities through personal development, knowledge-sharing, and cross-departmental collaboration to promote agility, efficiency, and innovation

  • Provides consistent, concise, relevant, reliable, and timely information to all internal and external audiences through a variety of media; Strives to provide accurate information to enable effective business decisions; Frames messages in line with audience experience, background, and expectations using terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience; Seeks input from audience, confirms/checks understanding and presents messages in different ways to enhance/foster understanding

  • Together with the IT PM team, promotes the IEEE IT PLC, the IT Governance process, standard use of the WorkOtter PPM Tool, use of Project Management Lessons Learned Tool, and the use of the InsideIT Centralized Documentation Repository across IT

  • Performs other related duties as assigned; Manages small to medium sized projects with simple to semi-complex operational processes; Project team sizes vary

Education


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Computer Science, Mathematics or other technical field or equivalent experience Req


Work Experience


  • 4-7 years experience in Information Technology, preferably in the area of systems analysis, or project management in a complex business and systems environment. Req

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams that include third party expertise Req


Licenses and Certifications


  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and/or Business Analysis certification (BACP) Pref

  • Must be capable of investigating and resolving issues that may arise during the implementation process to help reconcile with minimal downtime

  • Ability to apply Project Management methodologies, processes and tools towards the most effective management of projects, including, but not limited to, scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and issue management

  • Ability to work and collaborate with all levels of management including IT Business Partners, clients, staff, and vendors

  • Must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker. Specific technology knowledge and experience needed to produce desired outcomes can include systems development or analysis in complex business and systems environments and/or or project management. Should also be cognizant/have basic knowledge of new and emerging technologies; Business and technology acumen and proficiency in Microsoft Project (MSP) and Traditional and Agile SDLC
