We are seeking a full-time Senior Technical Artist - 3D Environment located in our Olathe, KS office. In this role, you will be responsible for creating visually compelling and optimized environments for immersive and gaming experiences and helping define the vision and style of new immersive products as part of a small team.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Collaborate closely with art director and other artists to design and build attractive 3D environments
Create environments in a modern game engine such as Unity or Unreal
Create lighting and shading using the latest tools
Set up procedural workflows and pipelines using Houdini or other tools
Ensure environment performance and technical requirements are met
Capable of leading as well as mentoring and overseeing one or more developers and artists across one or more projects and multiple objectives
Innovate, rapidly prototype and collaborate with others regularly
Work closely with the designers, artists, and developers to deliver the vision within the project requirements
Develop tools and methods that improve and facilitate the art and dev team’s workflow
Leverage advanced understanding and expertise to utilize 3D game engines, 3D modeling software, and Houdini to contribute to product development
Establish graphic production pipelines
Regularly communicate technical constraints and their reasons to the dev/creative teams
Serve as the point of contact for asset production and technical issues
Remain informed of new technical and technological developments and apply them
Drive optimization by setting standards, coordinating art and dev teams, utilize profiling tools
Produce documentation on tools, methods, training, processes, and engine constraints for future reference and consultation
Mentor and/or supervise less experienced Technical Artists
Maintain a culture of cost consciousness related to innovation activities
May be responsible for modeling, sculpting, and texturing
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a Game Development or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Professional industry game development experience
Excellent knowledge of real-time modeling and shading techniques (shaders, PBR, normal map, displacement etc.)
Excellent knowledge of 3D modelling software, 2D photo editing software (3D studio max, Houdini, Substance Designer, Painter, Photoshop)
Excellent knowledge of engines including Unreal Engine 4 and Unity
Detailed knowledge of the technical constraints of engines and the different game platforms
Experience with Houdini
Knowledge of asset management systems (ex: Perforce, VSS, Alienbrain, Git)
Familiarity with Python, C++, C#, VEX, and/or JavaScript
Strong abilities in Shading, Lighting, and Optimization
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications
Experience or passion within adjacent skills (ex. Modelling, Camera Systems, Environments, UI)
1+ shipped title(s)
Demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit with experience starting a business or serving as a technical member of a start-up company
Recent experience in an individual contributor role with a proven track record and demonstrated
Ability to drive requirements through participation in cross functional teams
