Job Overview:

The REMOTE Director Data Solutions & Innovation role is responsible for providing thought leadership and organizing high-performing teams to drive the data governance, business intelligence, analytics, and reporting strategy, projects and initiatives that will architect, create, manage, and enhance cloud-based data solutions that will advance UNFI’s technical capabilities and provide the foundation for data-driven decision making across the enterprise to drive increased business results. This role is accountable for developing and leading departmental strategy, decisions, and activities regarding the development and implementation of an enterprise business intelligence and reporting platform and data governance capabilities to deliver self-service data analytics, reporting, data models, machine learning, and facilitate data discovery, data quality, data lineage, and data governance. This role also is responsible for ensuring project and data solution delivery processes are in place to deliver against scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets. The Director Data Solutions & Innovation establishes department goals that align with broader IT goals and develops operating plans in support of UNFI’s strategic imperatives.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Data Solutions and Innovation:


  • Shape the direction of data solution delivery, business intelligence, analytics and reporting, and data governance and build a cohesive team culture of ownership, growth, transparency, and customer focus

  • Build strong relationships with business and IT stakeholders to implement an enterprise data governance strategy, including master data management, data standardization, and data quality management

  • Deliver end-to-end data solutions that are highly available, scalable, stable, secure, and cost effective

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and solution owners to plan and execute data projects, ensure teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction and resources required to deliver data solutions effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring projects remain on target to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality constraints

  • Deliver data solutions that are customer focused, easy to consume, and create sustained business value

  • Follow and promote business intelligence, data analytics and data governance best practices across the organization and stay up to date on technology and process advancements, continuously implementing improvements which yield positive business outcomes

Leadership and Team Management:


  • Lead, manage, and grow teams of analysts and engineers to modernize existing business intelligence and reporting platforms and create innovative data product solutions by developing strong business acumen and embracing and implementing emerging technologies

  • Foster culture of innovation by proactively identifying opportunities to introduce new tools, technologies, and processes to deliver increased business value, service reliability, and improved delivery execution

 

Education/Certification:


  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of data science, computer science, information systems, or software engineering, or equivalent work-related experience required • Advanced degree/MBA preferred

Experience:


  • 10+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, data warehousing, and reporting

  • 7+ years of experience managing data analytics/business analytics/reporting teams

  • 5+ years of experience in Agile development methodology

  • 5+ years of experience with cloud-based business intelligence and reporting platforms

  • 5+ years of experience with AWS

 

Knowledge:


  •  In-depth technical knowledge in building and deploying data analytics, business intelligence, and data solutions leveraging cloud-based platforms in AWS

  • Strong knowledge of curating large, complex datasets to derive KPIs, metrics, and analytics that transform empirical data into insightful, strategic decision-making visualizations

  • Strong knowledge of data governance and master data management

Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong leadership and project management skills; experience organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal and external resources

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic skill set

  • Highly flexible and adaptable to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment

  • Strong ability to navigate ambiguous situations and deliver high-quality results

  • Highly motivated and self-driven, ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and influence at all management levels and with both technical

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:


  • Some travel may be required

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment

  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
