Job Description:

Purpose of the Position

The Senior Automation and Technology Engineer will develop and refine technological advances and applying them to process and equipment within the production facilities with the goal of streamlining process and utilizing automation to reduce physical workload on our team members.

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.

Research and Development of Automation and Technology capabilities applicable to Simmons business operations

Apply best-fit Automation to Simmons operational processes in a manner to reduce physical workload and/or ergonomic concerns

Build project scope, budget, and schedule for capital planning and approval purposes of automation projects. Includes working with operations, accounting and finance to build justifications for capital requests.

Implement projects, while managing to budget and schedule and deliver work product to operations in a seamless manner.

Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Must be able to work on computer for an extensive amount of time. Must be able to stand or walk for many hours in any of our production facilities. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, and Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Face mask/shields may be required in office settings. Additional PPE as required by facility.

Travel: Travel as needed to implement projects across the Simmons organization. Could be significant depending on project location.

Technical Experience: Experience in implementing automation or robotics projects in a manufacturing environment, including scope development, engaging contractors, and managing to completion.

Industry Experience: 5+ years of experience in engineering automation and/or robotics field. Direct knowledge of PLC programming, ladder logic and other similar controls programming used in the industrial/manufacturing field.

Minimum Education : Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Preferred Education : Project Management Professional (PMP) or Master's Degree in Engineering
