SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Job Description:

Mechanical Engineers work on multi-discipline teams and within the mechanical engineering discipline group to specify and design process equipment and processing systems for various industry sectors including oil and gas, wastewater treatment, pharmaceuticals/life sciences, renewable biogas, etc. Systems can be used to convey and separate process gas, liquids, or solids. Equipment in systems can vary from small scale processing and manufacturing to large, complex process facilities and include any combination of mechanical systems which may include but are not limited to: oil, water, and gas separation, gas dehydration, amine sweetening, JT cooling, pumps, compressors, blowers, vessels, tanks, instrument air packages, crystallization, distillation columns, liquid chromatography skids, vacuum pumps, lab-scale equipment, solvent distribution and waste systems, fume hoods, vapor recovery, thermal oxidizers, flares, combustors, LACT units, heat exchangers, chemical injection, flame arrestors, piping specialty items, and valves.

Your Role:

Tasks include but are not limited to:


  • Ability to lead a discipline engineering team on projects with no guidance; supervise design personnel and other staff specialists.
  • Review and check designs; assists in the development of design guides, guide specifications and design control procedures.
  • Serve as the lead Engineer or technical expert on all project sizes. Planning and managing the engineering activities on a project.
  • Maintaining the schedule and budget of assigned projects
  • Conducting engineering tasks while supervising work for a team of engineers assigned to a project.
  • Performs engineering calculations and develops analysis models for projects.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Interface with other disciplines, vendors, clients, and contractors.
  • Conducting mechanical engineering tasks including:
  • Develop specifications and data sheets for mechanical and packaged equipment
  • Generate and maintain equipment and piping specialty item lists
  • Identify, utilize, and interpret applicable industry codes and standards
  • Develop material requisitions and technical bid evaluations
  • Take ownership of multi-discipline squad check reviews of vendor drawings and data for conformance to codes and specifications
  • Review and contribute equipment information on flow diagrams and P&IDs
  • Identify suitable materials of construction and compatibility requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations including piping hoop stress, NPSHA, flow velocity, pressure, etc.
  • Provide mechanical engineering data and input to support development of other disciplines' deliverables
  • Participates in coordination meetings with equipment vendors
  • Utilize web-based and vendor software for preliminary equipment sizing and selection
  • Develop budgetary cost and delivery basis for equipment
  • Develops mechanical engineering budget hours estimates and assumptions for proposals
  • Participate in project and client meetings including design reviews
  • Interface with other disciplines, vendors, clients, and contractors.
  • Prepares specifications detailing performance requirements, specific components, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
  • Visit vendor facilities and jobsites as necessary
  • Prepare inquiry and purchase requisitions, bid tabulations on simple purchases, and reviews vendor drawings for compliance with specifications.
  • Demonstrate a focus on safe, efficient, and cost-effective design.

Qualifications:

  • Good communications skills; capable of positive working relationships with staff, clients, and vendors in the office and field
  • Familiar with mechanical equipment and systems utilized in industries with which LDIS works
  • Self-Starter capable of handling projects with minimal supervision
  • Able to work with other engineering disciplines, designers, drafters, and project managers
  • Capable of working in the field and fabrication shop settings, climbing ladders, stairs, and working in industrial settings
  • Have a working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.

Education and Credentials:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar ABET accredited engineering degree
  • PE Strongly Preferred
  • 15-20+ years' experience.

Per our company policy, this offer is also contingent on passing a background and drug and alcohol test before starting at our company.

Salary Range: $125,000 - 160,000. annually depending on level of experience
