Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall supervision of intramural programs, facilities, and entry-level staff. This position requires critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.




  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, schedule, and supervise the intramural sports student staff, including the graduate assistant, supervisors, and sport officials.

  • Plan and implement the Intramural Sports program, including: scheduling, marketing, registration, facility reservation, policy enforcement, program and equipment evaluation, assessment, quarterly/annual reporting, program development, student development, and interdepartmental networking.

  • Design, plan, and sustain a comprehensive sports officials development program; including coordination of recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and development of sports officials.

  • Conduct continual assessment and management of all sports officials through direct observation and supervision during evening/weekend intramural competition.

  • Establish and implement sport-specific risk management practices, policies, and procedures.

  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for the Intramural Sports program. Maintain internal control of all expenditures; ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance.

  • Assist with facility reservations and schedules for the Wellness Center, Intramural Fields, and Carr Hall.

  • Serve as the departmental resource on Intramural Sports and Club Sports programming-related questions.

  • Administers and promotes all non-varsity, club (intramural) sports and wellness programs.

  • Plans and organizes campus-wide recreational programs for all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, and training of student recreation staff for recreation and aquatics.

  • Directs and coordinates intermural sports, assist with budget development, facilities reservations and management, event hosting logistics, and student development.

  • Oversees the implementation, assessment, and operations of intramural sports and aquatics.

  • Ensures that through staff recruitment and training, policy development and enforcement, supervision of ongoing maintenance, and that the pool is operated in a safe and compliant manner.

  • Plans, organizes, schedules, a comprehensive intramural sports program.

  • Collects and analyzes data to assess and evaluate programs and initiatives.

  • Develops and manages the operating budgets for the assigned functional area to ensure program alignment with fiscal allocation.

  • Participates in goal setting and long-range planning. Develops goals, student learning outcomes, and program objectives. Assists with the development and implementation of the overall department strategic plan.

  • Work irregular hours, on-call, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

  • Direct oversight of fitness and well-being programming, group instruction, and personal training

  • Manage students serving as Fitness Supervisors/Trainers

  • Collaborate with on campus partners to provide fitness and well-being programs.

  • Stays current on trends and best practices to develop new and improved programming. Participates in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops.

  • Serves on assigned campus recreation and university work teams and committees as needed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Education Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, or related field.


Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:



  • 2-3 years' experience working in campus recreation or equivalent programs.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Google apps, and knowledge or ability to learn other computer software programs.

  • Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.

  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED.


Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Recreation, Exercise Science or related field.

  • Knowledge of scheduling and/or recreation management software (ex. Fusion, IMLeagues)

  • Demonstrated experience in managing an Intramurals program and knowledge of sports programming.

  • Demonstrated experience in training sports officials.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising and training student staff.


Minimum Salary:

$38,000


Maximum Salary:

$40,000
