Job Summary

The Criminal Justice Program at the University of Houston-Downtown seeks dynamic candidates to fill one (1) Lecturer position.

Job Description:


  • Teaches a 5/5 course load of undergraduate courses

  • Participates in student engagement, mentorship, and recruitment efforts

  • Provides service (if necessary) to the department, university, college, community, and profession

The individual(s) selected will have earned a minimum of a Master’s degree in Criminology; Criminal Justice; Criminology, Law, and Society; or a related field from a regionally accredited university by the time of the job offer.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Specialization is open, however, preference will be given to individuals who can teach existing criminal justice course offerings of the department

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with justice-involved individuals

  • An established higher education teaching record

  • The willingness to teach multiple modalities

  • Demonstrable experience and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups
