Summary Repairs, maintains and overhauls automobiles, buses, trucks, and other automotive vehicles by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Examines vehicle and discusses with customer or management the nature and extent of damage or malfunction

Plans work procedure

Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle

Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential

Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear

Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings

Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps

Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks

Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel

Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator

Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts

Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers

Maintains vehicles through oil changes, hydraulic oil changes, filter changes and so forth

Maintains an inventory of necessary parts

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Must be able to keep systematic and up to date records on our fleet equipment. Must be able to invoice, and keep records of outside customers, and other general skills as needed using computer software provided by Conco. An individual should have proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and be proficient in using a keyboard and mouse.

Other Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of OTR trucks and trailers, and requirements by FMCSA, in maintaining such equipment.
