Accounting Manager - Enterprise SOX Controls at Cigna

Job Description Responsibilities


  • Develop strong partnerships and further SOX PMO relationships with key stakeholders (Business Areas, auditors and SOX and 3rd party testing teams)

  • Project-manage Evernorth SOX/MAR controls and key automated business process controls (ABPC) and other activities:

    • Develop in scope control population for testing, including new or updated controls as a result of changes in the environment, processes and systems

    • Create project plans for testing and key activities, while gaining commitments from key stakeholders and external auditor

    • Monitor testing plan, third party testing resources, deliverables and external auditor testing questions until resolved

    • Manage SOX Tool and ensure consistency with Enterprise SOX Approach

    • Ensure integrity and quality of documentation involving SOX controls, testing documentation and results

    • Consult with Financial Compliance and business areas on SOX control matters and modernization of control activities

    • Lead and/or support special projects and SOX initiatives



  • Oversee 3rd party testing teams with control testing in assigned areas. This includes:

    • Resolve items with key stakeholders (issue resolution, managing conflict, etc.)

    • Evaluate and/or confirm SOX exceptions and ensuring action plans are in place

    • Develop/enhance testing procedures for controls

    • Assist w/ clearing external auditor and other review comments

    • Develop and implement automated testing strategies



  • Perform evaluations on control issues and document conclusions for select areas

  • Through partnership with key stakeholders, review the impacts on controls resulting from acquisitions, new system implementations and process changes associated with enterprise initiatives and projects

  • Partner with Financial Compliance to drive control harmonization and optimization opportunities that is aligned with Enterprise SOX Program standards

  • Further an organizational understanding of SOX and controls through education and communication

  • Manage, coordinate and communicate updates to key activities

Qualifications


  • Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and internal controls

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, or related discipline is strongly preferred

  • 5-8+ years of diverse work experience in Internal Audit and/or Public Accounting firm

  • Strong project management skills - ability to manage detailed deliverables, assess delivery risk, enact correct actions and mitigation strategies and deliver on time.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to disseminate information quickly

  • Working knowledge of the COSO framework, business and automated internal control design and related testing principles

  • Experience with SOX and audit tools, MS Project and Visio desired

  • Excellent oral, verbal presentation and written communication skills

  • Independent problem-solver, team player and self-starter

  • Flex office designation which allows for the majority of work to be performed at home

  • Please note this position does not manage direct report
