Smith Services, a part of Timken Power Systems, is seeking aField Services Technicianfor the Princeton service center.

The Field Service Technician supports the plant both internally and externally on motor repairs and on-site technical support. The majority of work includes extended outage work, motor removals and reinstallations, motor testing (including start-up tests) and rigging.

Field Service Technicians must be able to work as a productive team member in a group of 6-8 technicians at one plant doing everyday repairs and support as well as work at customer sites. During some outages, they may perform additional tasks such as cryogenic cleaning and on-site machining. Technicians are on call 24 hours a day to offer customer availability for emergency work. Technicians travel frequently to customer sites. On site work can include vibration analysis, balancing, laser alignment, electrical testing, and infrared thermography and switchgear testing. Customer certifications must be obtained when necessary to be permitted on-site. Some required certifications are MICCS, Mine Safety Certification (below and above ground) and OSHA Certification. Technicians are responsible for Smith Services customer interface and responsible for managing all customer orders and relationships. Additionally, technicians support other shop efforts such as warranty work.

Basic requirements include:


  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • AS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, strongly preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain NON-DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate
  • Ability to obtainMine Safety Certification (below and above ground) and OSHA Certification.
  • 1-10 Years of Experience
  • Familiar with PDMA, Baker and PI Electric Motor Testing
  • General Knowledge of DC Equipment
  • Out of town, overnight travel required
