We are searching for a motivated & experienced Packaging Design Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
The Packaging Design Specialist designs, tests, and implements packaging designs that are a new part of the organizations Product Development process. This position will also review and improve existing packaging designs. This individual develops, designs, and tests standards and guidelines for developing packaging solutions for the organizations products.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
Oversee and manage complete packaging development process; including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving design, materials and processes by providing creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.Effectively work with internal resources and packaging suppliers to achieve functional packaging goals including optimizing packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.Work closely with suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, marketing and sourcing.Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market.Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.Develop and implement comprehensive test plans and tools to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.Must manage multiple projects simultaneously.Create accurate project specifications, timelines and budgets.Other responsibilities and projects assigned by Marketing Manager
EDUCATION
BS in Packaging (or related field) with a minimum of 2 years OR Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar position and industry.Project Management certification a plus.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.Demonstrable proficiency in 3D CAD software is needed.Excellent sketching and illustration skills.Experience in rapid prototyping.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work independently and within interdepartmental teams in a high paced environment.Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
