This position reports to and receives general guidance from the Manager of Information Technology. Requires effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of server hardware and software and related infrastructure ensuring users optimal use of the system. Critical thinking is required to determine the most efficient way to resolve the user's computer and software problems in relation to server hardware. Recommends appropriate computer services, to include equipment and software. Must be able to document services provided. May recommend training needed to keep the department current with changing trends.
Responsibilities include:
Establishes and implements standards for computer operations for compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters.
Analyzes network systems to meet engineering, projects and operations needs based on business and strategic planning goals.
Designs, configures, monitors local and wide area servers and printers for optimal performance and maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs.
Performs preventive and fault isolation maintenance on the local and wide area servers.
Adds and deletes users on network servers and applications.
Performs customization and system administration for server management.
Analyzes, recommends, and evaluates new hardware and software products for server applicability.
Develops, maintains, and updates the IT library to include technical documentation as requested by the Manager of IT.
Schedules, plans and performs system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
Performs advanced diagnostic and maintenance on desktop devices when additional expertise is required.
Assists in creating proposals, vendor selection, and vendor monitoring as needed for Information Technology.
Coaches, or work with other Information Technology personnel to improve their technical skills.
Works with the Manager of Information Technology with development of system standards, short and long term goals, and strategic directions.
Keeps current on new development and techniques in information technology.
Ensures the reliability and availability of IT servers by keeping the Manager of Information Technology up-to-date weekly on events that affect the system.
Minimum requirements:
A BA/BS degree in computer science or related discipline with at least eight years experience; or a combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain all server applications and peripheral equipment used within the company.
