The Facilities Technician role is responsible for performing periodic preventative maintenance and repairs activities on facility, process and lab equipment and systems. First in-house responder for service calls for the same equipment. Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, sheet metal, and welding. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance. Responsibilities may include equipment testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs on a variety of circuits, components, and equipment and instrumentation for laboratory and utility equipment.*This is a second shift position, hours are 3:00 PM through 11:30 PM.*
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules and oversees maintenance vendors and contractors in completing maintenance and repair activities on Exelixis equipment
Maintains all equipment in support of multi-story buildings
Reads and interprets technical schematics, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, drawings and product specifications to complete tasks
Understands Building Management Systems, Security Systems and Computerized Management Systems
Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System to maintain scheduled activities on existing assets, updates system with new assets as they come online
Uses Building Management System to monitor and trouble shoot building systems.Responds to alarms from the BMS to address system problems and emergency calls
Accurately records data and completion of work order paperwork in support of facilities equipment
Maintains schedules and updates repair log for company property and equipment in accordance with established schedules and company procedures
Conducts routine, periodic inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment
Complies with all company health & safety policies and procedures
Accurately records data on work orders and other associated paperwork in support of Exelixis internal SOPs, policies and approved procedures. Executes work orders for routine periodic calibration and preventative maintenance activities on process and lab equipment as well as HVAC & utility systems
Provides supervisory functions for onsite vendors who perform onsite maintenance and calibrations
Performs logbook entries and required documentation relating to Calibration & Maintenance of equipment used by Exelixis
Writes and revises standard operating maintenance and calibration procedures
Works closely with the Exelixis Discovery group to facilitate operations and avoid delays while maintaining compliance with Exelixis procedures
As necessary, supports the facility during off hours for equipment and utilities either by phone or provide onsite response to address any problems that may happen
Supports equipment commissioning, and installation & testing
Troubleshoots equipment and/or repair a variety of circuits, components, equipment and instrumentation & process controls for process.
Perform daily activities on boilers, towers, chillers, RODI systems, CDA systems, vacuum systems, HVAC systems, monitor the liquid N2 tank, CO2 tank and orders as needed.
Supports the fire life & safety systems incorporated into the Exelixis Alameda Facility which includes the emergency power (backup) generator and related equipment.
Uses hand and power tools to test, inspect, troubleshoot machines and equipment.
Supports and maintains the spare parts inventory within allowable budget. Includes identification of necessary parts and preparation of written requests to management for purchase of spare parts and components for process equipment, small lab equipment and Exelixis facility & utility equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and four years of experience; or,
AA degree in related discipline and two years of related experience; or,
BS/BA degree in related discipline; or,
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require certification in assigned area.Experience:
Must have experience in maintaining equipment in support of lab facilities.
Experience in Commercial, R&D, Clinical, Pharmaceutical Laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration. Clean room experience, Lab gowning experience.
Experience in the Maintenance & Calibration of bio-pharmaceutical process equipment and utilities and facilities.
Experience in one or more of the maintenance trades; carpentry, electrical, plumbing and small projects.
General experience with fire life and safety systems.
Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics and PI&D drawings related to commercial, Life Science equipment, buildings, facilities & utility systems.
Frequently applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
Strong analytical and business communication skills.
Understanding of Scheduling, Maintenance & Planning
Knowledge of RODI, CDA, Vacuum equipment
The ability to operate test equipment used for calibration and maintenance
General computer knowledge including Microsoft Office
Understanding of building utility systems, HVAC, BMS (Building Management Systems)
Has the ability to work in a fast-paced diverse working environment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment: primarily working indoors and outdoors of buildings
Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
Physical effort/lifting up to 50 pounds
Required to be on-call and work weekends or nights in response to maintenance emergencies or other call-outs as a regular part of the job
No travel required
