The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Research Specialist - Gas Chromatography Focus, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Providing analytical chemistry research and problem solving for 3M’s corporate research laboratories and 3M business units


• Developing gas chromatographic test methods for characterization of 3M materials and products


• Designing and conducting analytical experiments, interpreting data, and writing technical reports to document and communicate results


• Collaborating with the greater 3M technical community on new technology and new product development

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or other scientific discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

-OR-

• Master’s degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and three (3) years of experience developing gas chromatography methods and interpreting GC data using different sample introduction and detection methods in a private, public, government or military environment

-OR-

• Bachelor’s degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and seven (7) years of experience developing gas chromatography methods and interpreting GC data using different sample introduction and detection methods in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Demonstrated research experience and problem solving in material related analysis and characterization


• Two (2) years of combined experience designing gas chromatography experiments and interpreting resulting data from a private, public, government or military environment (graduate research and/or post-doctoral fellowship considered qualifying)


• Experience using gas chromatography - mass spectrometry to identify unknown compounds


• Experience with designing, building and/or modifying analytical equipment

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
