Job Description:

Amsted Rail has an immediate opening for a General Supervisor at its operation in Granite City, Illinois.

This position reports to and receives general direction from the Superintendent of C&F.  Reporting positions to the General Foreman C&F are Lead Foreman and Foremen of C&F. The general duties of General Foreman are to help direct the daily activities for all hourly and salary staff. General Foreman is responsible for the safety of the employees working in the department and the enforcement of rules and guidelines in practice. General Foreman is to allocate manpower as needed to meet shipping and finishing requirements. 


  • Support and enforce safety programs to ensure employees practice safe work practices and maintain proper PPE in regulated areas, reduce safety hazards, and prevent incidents with continuous improvement and innovation

  • Schedule workforce and distribute work assignments to ensure available manpower to perform all necessary assignments needed to establish efficient operations while abiding to contract language in current labor contracts

  • Maintain inventory control (work in process) and order supplies necessary to keep consistent operations and throughput

  • Prepare and update necessary reports concerning product quality, job procedures, drawing analysis, chart production, and maintain product specification logbooks

  • Undertake special projects assigned by the Superintendent C&F and perform all other related duties.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree or 5 years of equivalent experience in a production-related environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical or business field preferred

  • Knowledge and familiarity with ASF and AAR products, standards, and specifications relating to product design and application, safety administration, finishing, and gauge application

  • Familiarity with industry and some experience with labor relations with unionized labor

  • Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to navigate online and internal software

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills are a must

  • Five to ten years of experience in industrial manufacturing, production, and

  • Ability to direct and motivate people, complete multiple tasks promptly, and work well with others. Organized, responsible, self-motivated, and provide recommendations to enhance operations and safety performance

  • Promote change and innovation within the workplace and practices
