Position Overview

The Asphalt Paving Foreman, responsible for the supervision of their Paving and Construction Crew as well as performing various duties on construction and/or paving projects. The Foreman handles the majority of aspects related to personnel management on site. They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis. They work side by side with laborers and must have the capability to manually complete any activity.

Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.

  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to their Supervisor, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.

  • Delegate tasks to employees within their crew.

  • Independently make decisions regarding production on a daily basis.

  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver.

  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel.

  • Occasionally digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.

  • Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.

  • Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Shall protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities.

Education

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience


  • 5+ years related experience in asphalt construction and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in managing employees and/or leading a traveling crew.

  • Some experience creating, working within and/or administering an assigned budget, preferred or ability to learn same.

Requirements


  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

  • A working knowledge of customer specifications will be necessary to ensure a quality project avoiding re-work or punch list work.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.

  • High standard of ethics, integrity and trust.

  • Must be able to pass pre -employment criminal background check.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures outlined in Employee Handbook.

  • Moderate travel required; must be willing to work in or travel to other locations as needed.

  • Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.

  • Must be able to work independently and with groups.

  • Must be able to work under time constraints as needed.

  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors and general public at all times.

  • Able to safely drive a vehicle for long periods of time.

  • Able to work extended hours if needed.

  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
