Position Summary: The Juvenile Intensive Supervision Officer (JISO) is a full-time, hourly position working within the 16th Judicial District. This position is responsible for providing case management and supervision to youth as ordered by the Court.

Essential Function Statement(s)

Must be a United States citizen.Must pass law enforcement background check and pre-employment drug screen.Possess a valid Kansas Drivers License.Ensure all regulations and Standards defined by KDOC-JS and SFTCC in regards to case management are maintained.
Document contacts with youth, parent(s), schools, court, service providers, etc. Effectively utilize risk-needs assessments as standardized by KDOC-JS, and maintain certification in implementing said assessments.
Effectively maintain standards as determined by the KDOC-JS risk management level system. Work cooperatively with court systems, judges, co-workers, and service providers.Meet and adhere to time limits in reporting information as required by KDOC-JS and SFTCC.Meet all requirements in the area of travel to and from residential/school visits, court hearings, etc.Monitor juvenile offender progress in a variety of community programs.
Ensure compliance with special court orders, restitution payments, and conditions of supervision. Make court appearances and recommendations that impact the disposition/sentencing of cases.
Aide in scheduling needed services for youth and families.Maintain client case management statistics for reports as directed.
Cover caseload temporarily in the absences of other JISOs
Maintain physical files on all youth sentenced to Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation (JISP).
Conduct random drug screens. Obtain a minimum of forty (40) training hours per year as per standard

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Duties are performed independently under general guidance from the Supervisor of Juvenile Services. Must be proactive to staff, youth, and public safety issues. Other related duties as necessary and/or required.

Accuracy- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Communication, Oral and Written- Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and proper writing style in all communication vehicles. Problem Solving- Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: Two years experience working with 12 to 18-year-old youth, both male and female. Supervisory capacity preferred.

Education: Bachelors degree in human services or related field or experience working with youth/families with one (1) year of related experience substituting for (1) year of education.
Extensive experience in the area of Juvenile Justice will be considered on a case basis.

Skills: Proficiency in MS Word and Excel or operating systems. The ability to write professional letters. Typing and computer literacy with Microsoft Office is essential. Valid Kansas Drivers License and reliable transportation. Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, computer, and other related office machines. The ability to receive, interpret and follow oral and/or written communication as well as possess organizational skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, county officials, and the public.

Problem Solving: Problem-solving exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures and laws.

Decision Making: Employee is responsible for executing decisions regarding youth being supervised. Supervisory approval may be required in some areas.

Accountability: Employee is responsible for budgetary control of the department resources but does not participate in the annual budget process.

Supervision: Employee does not have supervisory responsibility for subordinate personnel.

Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other KDOC employees/departments, county departments, the criminal element, and the general public requires the ability to communicate and relate positively and effectively.

Working Conditions: Position is at some risk due to working in law enforcement. Weather is usually not a factor.

Requirements: Valid Kansas drivers license. Twenty-one years of age or older. No felony convictions and no child Abuse Registry check. Ability to pass a KBI and Child Abuse Registry check. Successfully pass a urinalysis drug screen. Must pass law enforcement background check. Bilingual in English-Spanish helpful but not required. Must maintain YLS certification.
