PLACEMENT: Clerical, grade 6
MINIMUM PAY RATE:$16.47 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY


Supports Bookstore operations by providing exceptional customer service to Bookstore customers. Performs various daily retail operations, cash register operations, processes all sales, refunds, and buyback, receives and processes merchandise from dock to shelf, communicates with vendors. Schedule availability must include early mornings, evenings, and extended hours and Saturdays during "RUSH".





ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide excellent customer service by receiving and directing customers; answering phones; processing financial aid/job grant purchases and online orders; shipping merchandise/inventory; handling inquiries and complaints; and other customer service functions. Maintain related records.
2. Work with multiple database systems: BookLog, Colleague, Quickbooks, MS Office, e-commerce online ordering software, and other bookstore related software.
3. Perform all cash register related operations, including cash analysis procedures, balancing funds, completing deposits, resolving discrepancies, and processing paid in/outs. Maintain related records.
4. Assist with daily retail operations by processing all paper vouchers, invoicing, and reconciling all paperwork. Maintain related records.
5. Create store product records in BookLog POS system for new merchandise. Create P.O. and order from vendor(s). Receive merchandise from dock to shelf including POS data entry. Assist with book/product returns to vendor, maintain related records.
6. Coordinate staff assignments including lunch/breaks and coverage of work areas.
7. Train other bookstore employees on all register processes and store procedures.
8. Maintain working relationships with vendors and resolve such issues as shortages, discrepancies, defectives, shipping/billing errors and maintain related records.
9. Maintain all work areas within the Bookstore. Effectively display all merchandise in store and organize back-stock.
10. Assist with opening/closing of Bookstore as needed.
11. Assist with data entry and prepare reports as required.
12. Assist at all campuses as needed.
13. Perform related duties as assigned.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Excellent customer service skills and previous retail experience.
3. Previous cash handling experience.
4. Ability to proofread carefully. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Basic math aptitude and strong written/oral communication skills.
6. Operate basic office equipment including PC/cash register.
7. Schedule availability must include early morning, afternoons, evenings and extended hours during rush. Ability to travel between campus locations.
8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Associate's degree.
2. Knowledge of multiple database systems including BookLog, Colleague, MS Office, e-commerce online ordering system.
3. Two (2) years of retail supervisory experience.
4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.






WORKING/OPERATING SCHEDULE

Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 6:15pm and FRIDAY 7am to 4:45pm
During extended "RUSH" hours:
Monday through Thursday 6:00am to 8:00pm and FRIDAY 6:00am to 5:00pm





PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. or more required.





WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual retail and office environment.
2. Duties performed in a warehouse setting as well as shipping/receiving dock area.
