Senior Roadway Engineer in Maintenance

Atkins is looking for a Senior Roadway Engineer with a knowledge of Infrastructure Maintenance to work on a variety of transportation related engineering projects from our office in Tallahassee, FL (or remote with occasional travel). The Senior Engineer will assist the FDOT Office of Maintenance with various roadway maintenance program activities and initiatives.

How will you contribute to the team?


  • Provide technical expertise for developing, finalizing, and implementing tasks related to crash cushions, guardrails, signage, pavement markings, raised pavement markers, highway lighting, Maintenance Rating Program, Vegetation Management, Wildflower Program, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Rest Area and other roadway areas.


  • Coordinate and review maintenance related submittals, specifications, standard plans and contracts.


  • Develop, update, and deliver training.


  • Act as a liaison for roadway committees, research projects, surveys, task teams, and conferences and meetings.


  • Support the review, update, and development of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code rules, policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks, guidelines, forms, and agreements.


  • Provide technical expertise for improving worker, motorist, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety.


What will you contribute?


  • BS or MS in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.


  • 7+ years of relevant experience


  • Knowledgeable of Department roadway design and maintenance practices, particularly roadside safety and traffic control, and skilled in applying that knowledge to provide support for roadway maintenance decisions.


  • Exceptional communication skills.
