Purpose of Job: Supervises the PBV driver training program. Coordinates, plans, and conducts training and evaluations for drivers and trainers within the PBV division. Assists in overseeing FMCSA entry level driver training and hours of service requirements. Supports facility and divisional management in driver selection, evaluation, and accident investigations, along with recommending corrective actions as needed. Assists in facility management as needed.

Job Duties:


  • Trains and assists trainers, drivers, and helpers on proper procedures that facilitate active learning experiences. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • Coordinates, plans, and implements training programs in accordance with curriculum developed by PBV’s Department of Safety and Health. Monitors driver State license and DOT Medical certifications. Prepares classroom and range sites for instructional student learning activities for the safe operation of all PBV vehicles. Assists trainees in obtaining permits/certification needed to operate a PBV vehicle.

  • Encourages and monitors the progress of individual employees (trainees). Conducts monthly driver/manager training classes (one 15 to 30-minute class at each designated PBV site). Conducts monthly pre-trip audits on the yard to ensure inspections are being completed.

  • Assigns trainee to designated PBV trainer and issues training manuals and sales documents. Reviews training schedules with both parties and sets expectations for week. Meets weekly with trainees and trainers to monitor progress and provide guidance as needed. Updates RSM on a weekly basis on the progress and status of trainee development.

  • Conducts weekly reviews of driver HOS and Speeding reports providing TSM/RSM with status updates and outlining any potential concerns.

  • Conducts periodic in-cab and field audits of trainer performance. Prepares reports of findings and provides to management with remarks.

  • Conducts field investigations of vehicular accidents involving PBV vehicles and participates as a member of the Safety Review Committee as requested.

  • Assists in designing and writing division specific traffic safety curriculum to meet needs of specific locations.

  • Assists in the review of driver motor vehicle records and compliance with driver file program regulations (monthly report review with findings to facility management).

  • Professionally interacts with trainees, trainers, and all other PBV personnel.

  • Assists in other areas of the facility such as driving delivery routes as needed, assisting in the dispatch and scheduling of deliveries, and receiving delivery route calls.

  • Sets up and maintains driver skill training center (courses) at each dedicated location. Maintains inventory of all training materials within specified geographic region and orders/restocks materials as needed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:


  • High school diploma or GED

  • 2 years minimum of commercial trucking, transportation, or professional/workplace training experience

  • Class A or higher commercial driver’s license with ability to operate a standard transmission power unit (tractor)

  • Effective interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization

  • Outstanding instructional driving, training, presentation skills in front of large groups, patience, and a positive friendly attitude

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure the multitude of assigned responsibilities and paperwork are completed in an efficient and safe manner

  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, OSHA Regulations with considerable knowledge of CDL and ELDT programs

  • Availability to work and adhere to a flexible schedule, including various days and shifts

  • Experience using MS Office including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

  • Lead, influence, collaborate, encourage, and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation across teams

  • Project a feeling of pride in work and strive to achieve all goals

  • Prepare clear, concise, and informative reports, correspondence, and other written materials

  • Adhere to Company policies and rules set forth, promote the Company’s safety standards, and does not take inappropriate risks

  • Meet all curriculum requirements for instructing individuals on the range to include pre-trip inspections, straight line backing, off-set backing (driver-side and blind-side), parallel parking (driver-side and blind-side), shifting a ten-speed transmission up and down, lane centering, lane changes, freeway driving, performing right and left turns, maneuvering tight situations and turns including multiple lane turns, hazard perception, visual search, and sign recognition

  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and ethical standards

  • Travel to multiple sites within 50 miles of the home station and have reliable transportation

  • Operate and navigate a 10,000 pound or less van with GPS

  • Frequently (34%-66%) required to sit.
