LTI is seeking an experienced Union Mechanic in Mount Vernon. LTI-Milky Way is the leader in bulk liquid transport throughout the Pacific Northwest and we are continuing to grow and seek new members of our talented team.

 

SUMMARY:

The Union Mechanic is a vital member of the LTII Maintenance teams. The primary duty of the Union Mechanic is to inspect, repair and maintain our fleet of trucks, trailers and shop vehicles while observing all company safety and regulatory policies. The Union Mechanic works in close collaboration with Maintenance Assistants, Mechanics and Maintenance Managers as well as our Drivers, Wash Bay Staff and Yard Crew.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Complies with all company safety policies, including use of protective equipment.

  • General maintenance, clean up and organization of terminal facilities.

  • Follows policies for inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of LTII equipment.

  • Worker makes certain that all emergency equipment such as chains, light bulbs, fuses, etc. are available in case of need.

  • Performs all truck, tanker and trailer maintenance necessary as defined by LTII requirements.

  • Basic welding and fabricating.

  • Accurately diagnoses and repairs LTII equipment, removing and installing truck, tanker and trailer parts correctly and safely.

  • Repairs or replaces defective parts. Lubricates and cleans parts.

  • Complete repair orders using company maintenance software systems, recording materials used, type of work accomplished and maintenance system codes.

  • Starts and drives repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications and to test performance.

  • Verifies equipment is DOT compliant and safe to operate.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Reads job order and determines work procedures.

  • Safely and properly operates drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

  • Troubleshoot and repair 12 and 24 volt starting/charging systems.

  • Rescue drivers that have hours of service issues.

  • Respond to road calls when a piece of equipment has failed a DOT inspection or broken down.

  • Perform duties inside refineries and ports of entry.

  • Work safely alongside highways, county roads, and farms.

  • Respond to emergencies swiftly and calmly.

  • Work with law enforcement, and tow companies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Technical School degree in related field is recommended, or 2-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

General idea of how to weld and/or use a welder successfully to repair trailers and make tools.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Employee must meet Department of Transportation requirements and must possess or be willing to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License with Class A Air, Doubles and Tankers endorsements.

 

Employee must be willing to receive an Air Conditioning Certificate and possess a Brake Certificate.

 

Employee must have own hand / air tools.

 

Must be willing to obtain a TWIC card in order to access job sites at refineries and ports of entry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in Company’s Industrial Health and Safety Manual Chapter 2.27 PPE Program, which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, FR clothing, high-vis, hearing protection and respiratory protection.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in this work environment is usually loud.

 

Passing a pre-employment drug test is required.

 

A post conditional offer of employment physical, drug test and background investigation are required.

 

Random drug testing is required of all LTI, Inc. employees.
