City Experiences is seeking a Senior Accountant  for our Hornblower Shipyard operation in Bridgeport CT

About the Opportunity:

The Senior Accountant, Hornblower Marine, is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting and finance activities of Hornblower Marine vessel repairs and professional services, on-site, in Bridgeport, CT.  This position will report tot the Controller and work closely with Project Managers to maintain the job costing system, analyze project labor, materials and services.  Analyzing costs and billings relative to the progress of the various projects under construction is critical.  Other responsibilities include month-end closings, balance sheet reconciliations, financial analysis, forecasting and reporting. Work with Purchasing and Accounts Payable to research and resolve discrepancies and understand causes of cost variances.  This position will interact with all departments which requires strong communication and management skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Controller with all accounting functions including the job cost system, purchasing, AR, AP, payroll, and invoicing.

  • Set up project work orders in job costing system by inputting job codes and linking to GL accounts.

  • Analyze project work orders for proper costing of labor, materials, and services.

  • Produce project cost reporting, review with project management team, and forecast costs to complete.

  • Review and analyze detailed project labor, material, and service costs to determine costs are properly charged to correct work orders.

  • Continuously review actual project costs to estimates to identify variances and investigate causes with project managers.

  • Perform project close-out reconciliation and invoicing.

  • Provide project accounting support and reporting to Project Management Team.

  • Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations.

  • Participate in monthly accounting close including preparing expense accruals as needed

  • Working weekends and holidays may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:


  •  5 or more years’ experience, preferred, as an Accountant in construction, manufacturing or other job costing environment.

  • Construction or manufacturing experience preferred. 

  •  Proactive self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment and an ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet firm deadlines.

  •  Proficiency working with enterprise general ledger system and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  •  Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software a plus.

  •  Ability to ensure accuracy in job responsibilities.

  •  Ability to properly organize and prioritize tasks.

  •  Honest, dependable, punctual, and hardworking.

  •  Friendly with a professional attitude, appearance, demeanor, and respectable confidence.
