Position Summary :
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Senior Investigative Analyst for its Hate Crimes Unit in the Trial Division. In this position the Analyst is responsible for providing highly skilled analytical investigative support to the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Unit, its Investigators, and Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) prosecuting hate crimes in Manhattan.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :


  • Assisting ADAs in hate crimes investigations with the aim of arresting and prosecuting perpetrators, as well as preparing evidence for Grand Jury proceedings.
  • Routinely coordinating with ADAs, DANY investigators, and NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force (HCTF) detectives to track pending investigations and cases for updates.
  • Answering the Office's Hate Crimes Hotline, advising callers, logging incidents, providing general information, and making referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • Performing in-depth searches to investigate witnesses and possible suspects by utilizing government, public, and social media outlets.
  • Creating a weekly memorandum outlining key updates on cases and investigations, hotline calls, community events, important press clips on hate crimes, and other related matters.
  • Maintaining a database archive for all cases and investigations.
  • Running statistics and maintaining this data on hate crimes in Manhattan by year, precinct, type of crime, etc.
  • Working with the NYPD HCTF to follow up on incidents received through the hotline, providing support to new and pending investigations, and comparing DANY hate crime statistics with the NYPD HCTF's database for analysis.
  • Giving hate crime presentations in front of non-profit organizations, schools, and other community forums. These presentations require a great deal of forethought, preparation, confidence, and execution.
  • Staying up to date on local, national, and international news regarding bias and hate crimes, trends, community events, etc.
  • Performing other administrative and paralegal duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Computer proficiency required: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel). Must be able to run basic statistical analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of criminal justice investigative internet search techniques and databases, including, but not limited to, CLEAR, Accurint, and eJustice.
  • Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques, including preserving Facebook and other social media profiles.
  • Exceptional public speaking skills, some experience, and a high degree of comfort in giving presentations in front of large audiences.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys, financial institutions, regulators, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to communicate investigative results to other team members and to testify in court.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management, writing, and communication skills. Must work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.

Educational Requirements :

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • One year Trial Preparation Assistant (TPA) experience.

Commitment :

  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring unit.
