Your Day to Day

This position is responsible for leading the Americas Region Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) multi-year strategy, including the implementation of global DE&I initiatives in the region.  Accountabilities include design and delivery of strategic initiatives, DEI talent programs, practices, and policies across the geography to facilitate and embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into the organization’s culture.  Has scope for corporate and managed hotel DE&I initiatives in the U.S., Canada, MLAC and the Philippines, with franchise hotel owner/ operator engagement over time. The Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion manages and influences a team of direct and indirect reports and consultants to deliver the ambitious agenda. This role acts as a change leader, creating strong partnerships with senior business and HR leadership, internal and external partners and passionate IHG colleagues, to drive greater inclusion, talent attraction and workforce engagement.



  • Lead the development and implementation of the regional DE&I agenda in partnership with key senior stakeholders, i.e. Executive Committee members, Senior Leadership teams, the Americas DE&I Board and the Americas HR Leadership Team.

  • Lead the Regional DE&I Council agenda in partnership with the Head of Talent and DEI and the Americas DE&I Board Chair to ensure progression and delivery of actions.

  • Collaborate with the Global Talent and DE&I COE to shape global programs for in region implementation sharing insights and proposing initiatives to shape the IHG wide Talent and Diversity strategies.

  • Lead a multi-year communications and engagement plan to build IHG’s reputation as a top workplace for DE&I, with IHG represented in noteworthy publications and surveys collaborating with other internal partners (Corporate Affairs, CSR, others) on DE&I communications and change management, ensuring agenda and narrative is consistent and integrated.


Provide subject matter expertise, guidance for the continued organic growth of our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) through effective leadership, active engagement, programming support, and governance calendar & budget management.



  • Lead the strategy, multi-year plan and annual budgeting for the Americas HBCU partnership(s), designing and implementing programs and engagements that will further the hiring, retention and development of a diverse talent pipeline; build internship and entry-level programs to attract top diverse talent for critical functional talent segments.

  • Builds long-term plan with local, regional and national external organizations/ universities to develop strategic partnerships for ongoing learning & development, best practice sharing and talent identification (NBMBAA, NSHMBA, HBCUs).

  • Leverage data, analytics and insights to understand the internal and external trends, opportunities, and future-oriented thinking to assess progress and direct continuous improvement areas.

  • Produce an Americas-based DE&I dashboard to track progress and celebrate successes; promote and communicate with key stakeholders. The Director is accountable for influencing action to improve DE&I results in line with our Americas DE&I commitments and the Company’s 2030 plan.


Key Metrics:



  • Effectiveness of Americas D&I initiatives on colleague engagement/ sense of inclusion and belonging, inclusive leader capability and/or increase of female and minority talent in corporate and hotel leadership roles.

  • Strength of Americas talent plans related to attracting, building and developing a pipeline of diverse talent (internal/ external).


 

What We Need From You

Education:


Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. 


Experience:


10-12 or more years’ business experience, preferably in DE&I, HR, Talent, Leadership Development or related experiences.  Demonstrated experience in successfully owning large scale projects, programs or initiatives.  Effective demonstration of senior leadership interface.


Technical Skills and Knowledge:



  • Experience in DE&I or talent/development


Leadership and/or Manager development a plus



  • Role model for ‘Build One Team’ - A strong relationship builder able to collaborate and influence

  • Evidence of effectively leading large-scale projects

  • Analytical mindset – actively uses data to form insights and spot opportunities

  • Practical outlook – high standards but has a strong 80/20 mindset and can deliver at pace

  • Demonstrated leadership competency in leading people and teams

  • Hunger to continuously learn and understand best practice, latest thinking and build networks externally
