Shipping Assistant
DESCRIPTION:
This is a Monday - Friday day shift position that manages the Shipping Department inventories, organizes master pallets, semi-finished goods and finished goods. This position coordinates between planners in Thomasville and Mt. Gilead to ensure that proper inventories are maintained. They also communicate daily shipping schedules so that other areas of the plant are scheduled properly.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all Shipping Forklift requirements including operating department equipment safely
Utilizes SAP to review bills; create, print and apply shipping labels; and to maintain accurate inventory counts
Responsible for identifying and explaining daily, weekly and period-based priorities areas of the department
Identify scheduling gaps
Maintain carrier information file and keep carrier bids updated
Coordinate external carriers
Analyzes internal vs. external freight opportunities
Assist with coordinating outgoing shipments with truck drivers.
Communicate with Thomasville and Garner Plants to establish shipping schedules
Creates written procedures for performing all job functions within SAP and trains on the use of SAP
Create hand bills when necessary
Order office supplies
Assist our Store Room department with shipping and receiving of parts that need to be procured or sent out for repair
Make sure that housekeeping in the shipping, warehouse, and surrounding areas meet plant standards
Relieve Sanding department 550 and 120 forklift drivers when needed
Assist loading van and flatbed loads
Communicates with Planning/Scheduling the demand of flooring needs from Thomasville/Garner.
Communicate with proper etiquette via two-way radio with crew members
Communicate closely with Shipping teammates to assist with organization of warehouse, staging of material for shipments, and keeping track of inventories
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires 1 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment
COMPETENCIES:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Listening skills
Data analysis and interpretation
Ability to read a tape ruler and micrometer
Able to use a computer frequently
