Multimedia Journalist - KATC

KATC, the E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Lafayette, Louisiana is looking for a positive, proactive, collaborative, and highly engaged Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join our team.

We are looking for an experienced MMJ with at least 4-years as a broadcast journalist, This is a Senior Reporter position is a growing newsroom. It's a tight knit community a short drive from New Orleans and Houston. This is a place with outstanding weather, great stories to cover, and filled with culture, parades, and family-friendly events..

We want a storyteller who will help make our communities stronger and the world around us better.  The MMJ will be responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content, and editing stories for use on multiple platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:


  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.


  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.


  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.


  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.


  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.


  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.


  • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.


  • Works cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.


  • Assists news producer in preparing newscast.


  • Assists online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.


  • Reports, writes, captures quality visual content, edits and produces stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.


      

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:


  • BS/BA in Broadcast Journalism or related degree, or equivalent years of experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:


  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.


  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.


  • Knowledge and understanding of broadcast quality camera equipment.


  • Skills editing video on ENPS computer editing software, or similar software programs.


  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.


  • Proficient at posting content to various websites and social media.


  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment by remaining calm under pressure.


  • Ability to collaborate successfully in a team environment and make decisions quickly during any type of coverage.
