Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will design and implement custom automation solutions, and/or retrofit and improve existing designs for multiple projects over multiple sites. Responsible from the initial stages of brainstorming and conceptualizing solutions, through all design stages, fabrication, project management, assembly, and installation. The Mechanical Engineer will be part of the core team executing best practices and core competencies across multiple sites from start to finish.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ground up development, design, and debug of automation layouts, tooling and fixturing
Responsible for the solid modeling of mechanical designs and of entire automation cells.
Responsible for the integration of mechanical designs to support automation new builds and/or retrofits optimized for production, reliability, and cost
Multi-Site responsibility including travel with physical onsite implementations, as well as remote project management with internal and external teams
At times personally responsible for the physical fabrication of designs using CNC, Milling Equipment, and Wire EDM
Each core team member has a special function within the core team and is also responsible for project management of individual projects across multiple sites
Design and perform both unit level and system-level testing and validation
Find and participate in the evaluation of new technology, new products, new materials, and their impact on the business
Physical build, implementation, and installation of automation equipment, systems, integration of peripheral equipment.
Oversight and project management of multiple automation projects across multiple sites at any given time, and responsible for the communication of project status to team members and executive management
Develop and maintain clear, accurate documentation of automation equipment/process
Develop network of vendors and solution providers to partner with in projects as well as educating the team in up-and-coming technologies and applications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or 5+ years in Design/Fabrication
25-50% domestic travel may be required
Minimum 3 years industrial design experience
Minimum 3 years industrial fabrication
Fully proficient with 3D CAD system (SolidWorks or Inventor)
Experience with Automation Project Management required
Ability to problem solve, and think outside of the box to find effective solutions
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings & procedural documentation
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Experience in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Experience solving complex problems with little to no supervision as individual or member of an integrated team
