Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an experienced and versatile reporter to join its White House team covering President Biden and his administration.

This is a demanding assignment that calls for a seasoned journalist who can develop sources, break news and spot trends early in one of our most competitive coverage areas. We are seeking someone with a quick metabolism and broad expertise who can apply deep reporting and smart analysis to stories across a wide range of topics, from foreign affairs to domestic policies to electoral politics.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of covering a beat with authority and writing with clarity and precision. We are seeking a curious reporter with sharp accountability instincts as well as a graceful writer who can weave historical sweep into coverage of presidential moments. Flexibility is essential in covering the White House; this reporter must work with others on the team to quickly adapt to breaking news and travel on short notice.

A team mindset is essential in this role. We expect this reporter to work cooperatively with colleagues covering the White House and to embrace innovative storytelling using photo, video, graphics, data and design to find fresh ways to explain the presidency to a broad audience with maximum impact.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. We have a strong internal candidate for this position, but we are interested in hearing from others with a strong track record of producing incisive coverage.

If you are interested in the position, upload a cover letter outlining your vision for the job, a résumé and five pieces you've written (as one PDF) to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 07/1/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to National Editor Matea Gold, Deputy National Editor Philip Rucker, Senior Politics Editor Dan Eggen, White House Editor Naftali Bendavid and Managing Editors Steven Ginsberg and Krissah Thompson.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
