Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Improvement Engineer to support our location in Hahnville, LA.

About you

The Light Hydrocarbon (LHC) Improvement Engineer leads the prioritization and implementation of plant improvement opportunities, partners with the Plant and Operations leaders to solicit and collect ideas, describe opportunities, and implement projects and meets global business goals through optimization of the process technology, implementation of improvement projects and implementation of Most Effective Technology (MET).

The successful candidate for this job will be a member of the SCO Hydrocarbons Improvement Team. This team improves the plant by developing and implementing projects to increase profitability and improve overall performance. These projects include safety system upgrades, yield and conversion energy improvements, operating discipline enhancements, capacity upgrades, control system upgrades, and various cost reduction efforts. The improvement team also assists operations and plant staff in determining how best to run the plant efficiently and safely.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and support plant continuous improvement activities. Serve in specific roles of project manager or manufacturing representative on multiple projects.

  • Partner with plant operations personnel to secure process data for identification of technology gaps, improvement opportunities, and project definitions.

  • Identify plant improvements that are aligned to Business and Corporate objectives.

  • Provide technical plant support in specialized areas including process simulation, modeling, risk analysis, and process optimization.

  • Develop and apply process technology knowledge and continuous improvement skill set.

  • Drive knowledge exchange with tech center and other crackers.

  • Develop and implement a project portfolio that delivers positive year-over-year ROI and safety / sustainability improvement goals.

  • Champion process safety activities and act as a resource for relevant process safety concerns.

  • Partner with plant operation and maintenance personnel to identify and track performance indicators.

  • Support the facility root cause investigation process.

  • Serve as the implementation arm of the technology center.

  • Participate in plant immediate response and advising similar to other day support roles.

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Military ranking at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class (PO2/Sgt) is required.

  • Required work experience includes minimum of three (3) years of experience at a production facility.

  • This job will involve routine entry into the operating facility and requires the ability to transverse steps and ladders in the plant environment with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Shift work, with extended hours, are to be expected during periods of high workload such as plant turnarounds and project start-ups.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. - based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident or qualifying Asylee / Refugee).

Your preferred qualifications include:

  • Five (5) years production plant experience preferred.

  • Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical degree preferred.

  • Typical work group schedule is alternating Fridays off. Alternative flexible work arrangements are available.
