The Community Relations Manager is responsible for strategy and implementation of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art's public relations activities with oversight from the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Museum. The position works closely with JCCC Strategic Communications and Marketing on the Museum's public events, community activities, campaigns, digital strategy, and leads both internal and external communication.
The Community Relations Manager will drive to create and implement a consistent and effective message and brand identity for the Nerman. This messaging should attract diverse audiences to the Nerman's wide array of exhibitions, programs, and events (on-site and online) and support a visitor experience that is welcoming, accessible, and engaging. Community Relations efforts also should promote earned revenue streams such as classes, membership, gala fundraisers, and public events.
Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Strategic Planning. This position will develop strategic outreach plans to build awareness of the Museum and attract audiences for its exhibitions, programs, and events. Works closely with stakeholders to implement and successfully execute strategic outreach plans to support new programs, exhibitions, events, campaigns, story opportunities and public appearances. Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement towards strategic goals that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Community Outreach. Represents the Museum in working with stakeholders to craft and enhance the Nerman's visual identity and organizational voice to better share the Museum's story with the community. Develops strong and mutually beneficial relationships locally, regionally and nationally to enhance public awareness of the Museum and its unique contributions to the communities it serves. Works to achieve institutional goals, including increasing and diversifying audiences (on-site and online) and ensuring visitor satisfaction.
- Marketing Liaison. Serves as liaison between JCCC Marketing and other key campus departments/services to assist in the execution of the Museum's strategic outreach plan. This includes providing strategic direction to photographers, videographers, designers, web developers, printers, and other creative collaborators. Identifies best practices and improves internal systems with an eye towards future needs and institutional resources.
- Donor Cultivation. Supports the Executive Director and Chief Curator in donor cultivation and fundraising efforts in connection with the JCCC Foundation. Provides strategic guidance and execution of the Museums' public campaigns such as annual membership programs, exhibition sponsorships, major gifts, and community fundraising events.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in relevant field
Minimum of three years relevant experience in outreach and communications for visitor-centric organizations dedicated to culture, arts, or tourism
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for marketing/media tools
Demonstrated skill in writing, editing, and proofreading for marketing/media tools
Demonstrated mastery of social media applications and awareness of upcoming platforms
Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated organizational planning, problem-solving, financial, and analytical skills
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Arts Administration or similar
Motivated self-starter who possesses excellent communication skills to interact effectively with members of the public via social media, Nerman staff/partners, and diverse individuals at the College, as well as on a regional, national, and international level
Superior organizational planning, budgetary, and project timeline abilities including the ability to plan, develop, monitor, and manage a significant, detailed production schedule of multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility, and a proven ability to stay on schedule and budget
Ability to connect with people from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds
Ability to inspire others with the Nerman's mission through written and in-person messaging
Willingness to be a hands-on leader, working alongside staff to create a welcoming visitor experience and ensure the success of Nerman programs and events
Drive and ambition to pursue excellence while maintaining composure under pressure
Desire to connect with the Johnson County and greater Kansas City arts and culture community
