HVACR MECHANIC

HVACR Mechanic needed for Commercial Refrigeration and Food Equipment service company.

Overview:

Heating and air-conditioning systems control the temperature, humidity, and the total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings. Refrigeration systems make it possible to store and transport food, medicine, and other perishable items.

Heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems consist of many mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches.

Heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers, also called technicians install, maintain and repair such systems. Technicians often perform routine maintenance and repair work to keep the systems operating efficiently. Technicians may adjust burners, blowers and check for leaks. If the system is not operating properly, they diagnose the problem.

Heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers are adept at using a variety of tools, including hammers, wrenches, metal snips, electric drills, pipe cutters and benders, measurement gauges, and acetylene torches. HVACR technicians also work with refrigerant lines and air ducts.

Heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers are required to be licensed by the State and some localities.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain light commercial rooftop units, boilers, controls, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Perform repairs and installation on HVAC/R equipment and commercial kitchen equipment for residential and commercial customers.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC/R equipment for commercial and residential applications including commercial refrigeration equipment.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, walk in refrigeration/freezer units and some experience on centrifugal and rotary screw compressor chillers.
  • Validate laboratory air flows to meet OSHA safety requirements.
  • Conduct a wide range of repairs in accord with OSHA regulations.
  • Operate and maintain high and low pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers and all relate equipment.
  • Service and maintain chillers, air handler units, refrigeration and ventilation equipment for the facility
  • Operate an anhydrous ammonia refrigeration system and also perform maintenance and preventative maintenance repairs to the same equipment.
  • Work on maintaining the ammonia refrigeration system: compressors, evaporators, and all other ammonia refrigeration components.
  • Replace humidifiers, air cleaners and temperature controls.
  • Used electrical meters to check capacitors, resistors, ohm motors, check for voltages ranging from 24VAC to 480VAC.
  • Change filters and belts; clean condenser coils; install new A/C units; adjust tension pulleys.
