General Summary



This critical position as a Segment Manager on our HWY 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara CM/GC is responsible for the overall direction, completion, and financial outcome of complex construction projects with a revenue range of $50 - $100 million with project durations up to 3 years. The ideal candidate will have senior project management experience on projects involving white paving with some structures knowledge. This minimum 2-year commitment will allow you to be a part of high performing team, gain exposure to the unique CMGC process, and live in the beautiful Carpinteria area.


For this particular project, Granite's scope of work for this project includes the full rebuild of 11 miles of highway with the addition of new high occupancy vehicle lanes, on- and off-ramp improvements, construction of new sound walls, and improvements to local streets and intersections.

Essential Job Accountabilities



Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.


  • Perform accurate project revenue and cost financial forecasting to ensure corporate profitability goals are met.


  • Manage a staff of up to 10 full-time employees including hiring, firing, and completing performance reviews.


  • Coordinate with estimators and project controls group to establish budget.


  • Develop comprehensive plan for project start up and successful kick-off.


  • Coordinate with other Segment Managers, Corridor Superintendent, and other personnel to meet project schedule while maximizing value to Granite throughout the overall corridor.


  • Provide environment where dynamic project communication occurs between Project Engineers, Foremen, Superintendents and Corridor Superintendent to ensure work is accomplished in an efficient, profitable, and safe manner.


  • Ensure proper job controls are in place, i.e. quantities, costs, revenue, DBE, and schedule.


  • Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, etc., providing customer service to develop long-term partnerships with client base.


  • Ensure accurate construction reports for the job allowing for continuous improvement in performance.


  • Run projects at profitability levels to meet or exceed expected margins.


  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.





Education



  • BS degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience in heavy civil construction.





Work Experience



  • Minimum of ten (10) year's progressive project experience in heavy civil environments.


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience public works environment including earthwork, paving, and underground work types.


  • Experience as a Large Projects Superintendent preferred.





Knowledge, skills, and abilities



  • Knowledge of earthwork, HMA and concrete paving, underground, and grading practices.


  • Knowledge and understanding of union agreements and prevailing wage issues.


  • Knowledge of Caltrans standards is desired.


  • Maintain ability to work in high production environment.


  • Demonstrated decision-making skills.


  • Excellent leadership skills.


  • Excellent supervisory communication and organizational skills.


  • Accuracy at all times.
