Job Description:

Knik Construction, an Alaska Paving Contractor is looking for an Equipment Operator. This individual would be tasked to perform a variety of construction activities by operating various types of heavy equipment including, large dozers, excavators, wheel loaders, articulated and combination trucks.  Special consideration will be given to applicants who possess experience working in rock quarries and understand the safety and proficiency involved with cleaning up benches that are being developed by drill and blasting methods.  Paving fleet operating experience is also desired.  Applicant must have at least two years’ experience as an operator, be familiar with all around paving hand duties, and demonstrate a basic understanding of pavement construction requirements.  This is a seasonal position.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manor in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.

  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks

  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required

  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored

  • Advise maintenance department of any requirements for maintenance or repairs

  • Participate in routine maintenance

  • Practice workplace safety

  • Maintains communication with Project Superintendents to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule

  • Interacts with Quality Control personnel to ensure specifications are met

  • Ensures compliance with company policy and procedures

  • Performs additional assignments as required

Qualifications

Requirements:


  • Two years of operating experience on pavement construction projects

  • Thorough knowledge of heavy construction equipment

  • Demonstrated decision making skills

  • Ability to work in high production environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ensures a high level of work quality

  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines

  • This position requires time flexibility, as overtime, schedules and locations of jobs can change depending on the contract.

  • Pre-hire drug test

  • Current CDL
