The School’s Special Programs Coordinator serves as an integral staff member assisting with communication and implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities eligible for special education under the IDEA and for students eligible under Section 504 of the ADA in addition to implementing interventions for students requiring RTI services.  

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

  • Implements all policies and procedures related to Special Programs; Develops and implements a results-oriented program design that has synergy with K12 curriculum;

  • Promotes and leads the professional development of general education staff in order to ensure students’ accommodations are accessible and implemented with fidelity;

  • Assists general education staff with implementing the allowable IEP and 504 Plan accommodations in the online environment and keeping data on the success of said accommodations;

  • Creates and maintains relationships with state/regional/district-level special education leaders;

  • Develops and disseminates “best practices” for Special Programs in the virtual school setting;

  • Implements use of adaptive technology to meet students’ needs;

  • Oversees maintenance of resident district Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and 504 Plans; Works directly with parents and students (both regular and SPED) where necessary; Ensures students with disabilities are an integrated part of the school’s fabric and culture.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education AND

  • Three (3) of Special Education experience OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: Missouri Educator Certification (K-12) in Special Education

Endorsements: Special Education

Residency Requirements: 




  • Missouri Residents Preferred

  • Will consider residents of Illinois, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas. 

  • Must be able to obtain a Missouri teaching license and attend in person events as planned.  This may include testing, professional development, and other school related events.  




OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 


  • Understanding of state standards, state and federal regulations

  • Great organizational and time management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; Experience using databases; Web proficiency

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time with some overnight stays possible

  • Ability to clear required background check

Desired Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Education or related area

  • This is a home-based position with regular travel to the office and for professional development.

  • Regular travel to the St. Louis, MO office expected to attend meetings and professional development. Core business hours are Monday - Friday, 8am – 4pm (CT).

  • In general, employees are expected to travel to the St. Louis office one day each week for meetings; however, concessions may be made for exceptional candidates who live a significant distance from the office.

  • Regardless of commute time, all employees are expected to travel for professional development on at least a quarterly basis and may need to stay overnight.
