The Merchant Integrations team is looking for an experienced engineer to help lead and build a world class developer experience for our customers. Customers around the world depend on PayPal's APIs, SDKs, and developer tools to keep their businesses thriving, and developers working with PayPal's products need a developer experience that is easy to understand, consistent, simple to integrate, and innovative to be successful. You will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal's customer facing APIs. You will be responsible for building the main Payments and Vaulting APIs that power and drive PayPal's core payments for merchants of all sizes. The Developer Integrations team within the Product and Platform Engineering org is creating the future of the developer experience at PayPal. Customers around the world depend on PayPal's APIs, SDKs, and developer tools to keep their businesses thriving, and developers working with PayPal's products need a developer experience that is easy to understand, consistent, simple to integrate, and innovative to be successful. We partner with teams that build and own the best-in-class solutions offered across PayPal to find common ways of expressing PayPal's products to our customers.


Our focus is teaming with smart engineers who are passionate about their craft and excited to build software for our unique solutions in the space. Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls. Our teams are geographically diverse and adept at collaborating across long distances. Some of our teams utilize pair programming, which means you always have another set of eyes to help you; teams that don't utilize pair programming still emphasize collaboration as key to building quality solutions.

The Role:


We are looking for a passionate, highly talented, self-driven, and proven software engineer to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for building the API framework to power the next generation of PayPal's payment APIs. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of features and tools developers will use every day and provide our customers with an API integration experience that is world class.


You will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal's APIs. You will be responsible for building the main Payments and Vaulting APIs that power and drive PayPal's core payments for merchants of all sizes. You will help design and build frameworks to support idempotency, batching, eventing, metadata, and other platform capabilities. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn and able to master many technologies and has a strong focus on understanding what our customers want.



What we look for in you:

  • 2+ years experience building APIs and services.

  • 2+ years experience with Java

  • Experience in developer-facing products (e.g, REST APIs, GraphQL, SDKs) or products that enable third-party application development.

  • Experience turning plans into reality, partnering with product and design to scope, plan and prioritize work.

  • A commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, our software).

  • An eye for design or an ear for the customer; engineering makes substantive contributions to product definition. Strong empathy for consumers and merchants that PayPal serves and an interest in building products that better serve them.

  • Eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others. Ability to work autonomously to drive clarity in ambiguous situations.

  • Experience mentoring engineers including providing feedback and investing in the career growth of your teammates.

  • Exceptional communication skills and experience balancing diverse priorities in a fair and transparent manner. Ability to navigate difficult conversations, both on your team and with stakeholder teams.
