Job Description:

General Summary
RIC is committed to Information Systems staff implementing new strategic solutions, providing systems support and filling the integral role of supplying future services to the Institute's patients and clients.
The Senior Business Applications Analyst is a primary resource for systems administration, configuration, deployment and support for business information systems. This position requires minimal guidance and supervision, working within a general framework established by management. Performs as leader for projects of varying sizes and complexity as they relate to the business information systems. Works with business support areas in order to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for the business applications. Facilitates workflow analysis and software design solutions to enable the business support areas to achieve their goals. Serves as coach/mentor for Business Applications Analyst team members. Complies with corporate and departmental policies and demonstrates excellent communication skills.

Principal Responsibilities
1.
User Support

The Senior Business Applications Analyst must satisfy user support responsibilities by:

  • Supporting existing business applications including installing upgrades, providing enhancements and problem management.
  • Resolving support issues according to Information Systems policies, providing documentation to Business Applications Analysts for future reference.
  • Providing consultation on process analysis and design, recommending alternative solutions, both automated and manual, to meet those needs.
  • Acting as liaison between Information Technology vendors and internal departments.
  • Serving as liaison to major user groups, including Finance, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Central Supply, Payroll, Human Resources, Patient Financial Services and Research, on information systems issues.
  • Serving on or leading appropriate RIC committees.
  • Providing after-hours on call service as required.

2.
Project Support

The Senior Business Applications Analyst must satisfy project support responsibilities by:
  • Facilitating and supporting system installation through the implementation cycle.
  • Determining goals and objectives of each project and identifying all stakeholders, taking into consideration the provision of the business requirements, user needs and potential for cost savings through reduction of work steps.
  • Identifying customer functional requirements and translating functional requirements into system design, ensuring that systems deliver the desired capabilities to meet the needs of the users.
  • Assisting with product selection based on identified functional requirements.
  • Participating in the design and deployment of additional business applications and foreign system interfaces between 3 rd -party systems, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and Cerner Patient Accounting.
  • Developing a project plan with timelines and milestones based on priorities and resource requirements.
  • Defining roles and responsibilities related to the project.
  • Developing and implementing a communication plan to include project progress.
  • Developing conversion/migration requirements and life cycle plans including designing, configuring, testing, debugging, implementing and documenting phases.
  • Configuring business systems including one or more of the following: Microsoft Dynamics GP modules, Cerner Patient Accounting, Cerner Charge Services and/or other business applications.
  • Developing detailed Unit Test plans, executing tests to verify configuration satisfies design requirements, and updating configuration based on results.
  • Developing and documenting Integration Test and User Acceptance Test plans based on functional specifications.
  • Managing vendor relationships.
  • Documenting and managing issues and problems including establishing a course of action to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinating handoffs to operations, support and technical staff in Information Systems.
  • Developing documentation for training, maintenance and support, including problem resolution and escalation decision trees.
  • Complying with Policies and Procedures regarding IT Change Management.
  • Working with business support representatives after the conclusion of IS projects to measure results of initiatives.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of trends in information systems.
  • Continually meeting certification requirements described in "Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required" by obtaining updated certification(s) within 6 months of upgrade to new version Microsoft Dynamics GP. For Cerner certification(s), continuing education must be completed per Cerner Corporation's specifications.

User Training:

The Senior Business Applications Analyst must satisfy user training responsibilities by:
  • Assisting with development of plans, strategies and tactics for employee education to support new and existing system applications.
  • Developing end-user training materials for applications software as needed.
  • Collaborating with the Applications Analysts to provide user training, conducting training sessions as necessary.
  • Serve as mentor/coach to Business Applications Analysts.
  • Evaluating and monitoring training for effectiveness.
4.
Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of RIC.

Reporting Relationships
  1. Reports directly to the Business Applications Manager
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  1. Bachelor degree in information systems or business (e.g. Computer Science, Accounting, etc.). Work experiences can replace traditional educational requirements.
  2. Certification in one or more core Microsoft Dynamics GP modules (e.g. Core financials, Core distribution, etc.) or Cerner Patient Accounting. Certification(s) must be consistent with current Microsoft GP version(s) and/or Cerner modules in use at RIC, or one version prior to the current version.
  3. Project Management Professional (PMP) or MS SQL DBA credentials a plus.
  4. Minimum of 5 years experience in an Information Systems Applications Analysts role.
  5. Minimum of 5 years experience with at least 5 Microsoft Dynamics GP modules (or ISV products in use at RIC) or Cerner Patient Accounting.
  6. Knowledge of healthcare business support processes in one or more area (e.g., Finance, not-for-profit, Payroll & HR, Procurement & Central Supply, Revenue Cycle, etc.).
  7. Proven ability to manage software initiatives of varying sizes and complexity.
  8. Experience working within Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  9. Personal computer skills necessary to prepare project plans, presentations, flow charts, test plans, etc.
  10. Firm knowledge of workflow in one or more area and ability to work independently with users to define how technology can drive business processes.
  11. Analytical skills necessary to resolve issues and/or increase operational efficiency of business support processes.
  12. Ability to pay close attention to details when designing, implementing, documenting and maintaining system functions.
  13. Interpersonal skills necessary to actively listen and communicate effectively with IS peers and user community to deliver and support systems based on user needs.
  14. Strong team-building skills to promote cooperation, collaboration and partnership both inside and outside the organization.
  15. Critical thinking and reasoning skills to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions and approaches to problems.
  16. Organizational skills necessary to coordinate the completion of tasks independently as well as with others to meet established deadlines.
  17. Work well under pressure.
  18. Knowledge of ANSI SQL scripting and/or Cerner Command Language (CCL) for troubleshooting.
  19. Ability and willingness to learn new tools and Business Information Systems to be identified as part of RIC's future core applications toolset.
